Flames Congratulations to Calgary's Flames, Western Conference Top Seed!

I don't recall any "experts" touting the Flames as the class of the Western Conference. They had Preds, Jets, Sharks, and McSuperstar's unstoppable team!

So, let me extend congratulations to the dark horse winner of the West! My only regret is that my guys can't cross your playoff path, as they did in 2010!

Now, for your team, the job is only partially done. There is the Campbell to win. And then...well, as the cliche goes "one game in one series, at a time."

Again, congratulations to the Flames and their fans...enjoy the ride!

I remember sitting with my dad in the car at the intersection of Macleod and 36th Ave. S.E. in June 2010, waiting for that endless green going north/south to change to red, and hearing on the radio that Patrick Kane had scored to win the Chicago Blackhawks their first championship in 51 years. It was an incredible moment, and it was one of my first really important hockey memories. It was the beginning of the first cap-era dynasty.

That team was a lot of fun to watch. They did it all. You've seen some great hockey there, thefoss. And as they say, "game recognize game."

There is only one Western Conference Championship. It comes after three playoff series and includes the Clerance S Campbell Bowl.

My bad...I should have titled this "Top Seed", which too, is an accomplishment!

(If a mod can edit thread title, I'd appreciate it)

Congrats to CP and Flames die hards. Hell of a season.

If The Yotes don't pull it off I'll bust out my Flames jersey around town.

Thanks, man! Those Hawks teams were the first cap-era modern dynasty. Just oozing talent, drive, class, and were lethal. However, we definitely played you in '09 In 2010 we didn't make the playoffs, and wouldn't again until 2014-15. I was in Vermont watching Game 6 vs Philly and was happy the Hawks won. They deserved it, that was a hell of a team. Also, how could I not with you also knocking out the Canucks.

Really is amazing. Even though I feel like the top line has taken a number of games off this past month or so, the Flames are likely to take the conference by a significant margin. I love that they clinched by beating the one team on their tale, the Sharks, and beat them in convincing fashion.

Just about every game this year has been entertaining too. Here's to a great season, and hopefully a great playoff run!

Thanks Foss. You're a quality poster and always contribute an interesting outside take.

Hopefully this accomplishment isn't lost on CP even when inevitable frustrations will come up over the coming weeks. The team is still relatively inexperienced in the annual first to 16 tournament, but this is one HELL of a step to take in the right direction.

I hope we'll be watching hockey for a while yet. I do believe this team is very reminiscent of a young ('09 ish) Blackhawks club, with Gaudreau filling the role of Patrick Kane and James Neal in some aspects being the team's Hossa. And somewhere between Monahan's goal scoring and Lindholm's amazing 200 foot game you have the essence of Jonathan Toews.
