Flames Five defensemen are in. Who's the sixth?

Mods, if you could add a poll, that'd be swell.

Going into the playoffs, it's pretty clear that five defensemen have punched their tickets onto the full-time playing roster:

- Noah Hanifin, 79 GP
- T.J. Brodie, 78 GP
- Mark Giordano, 77 GP
- Rasmus Andersson, 76 GP
- Travis Hamonic, 68 GP

Where each of those guys plays is up for debate, but make no mistake: barring injury, they'll be in there.

But the Flames don't have just five defensemen... they have ten. However, only one more spot exists in the Flames' lineup for one of these five players:

- Oliver Kylington, 36 GP
- Juuso Valimaki, 22 GP
- Dalton Prout, 17 GP
- Michael Stone, 12 GP
- Oscar Fantenberg, 12 GP

Who should fill that final spot?

I think Fantenberg starts, but Valimaki takes over

I’d showcase Prout for the final 3 games and if he keeps up the strong play I’d stick with him. He adds a level of toughness no others on that list have. Keeps the other team in check and if liberties are taken then they need to answer the bell. If he struggles, I’d move to Kylington

Stone has the most experience. Usually you go with the tried and true. Interesting question though.

Prout is certainly a tough customer, although I don't think it should be forgotten that Stone racked up 106 hits last year and has a career-high of 202. Prout's is 151

I'm so happy with the fact that there is no clear order, and no clear bottom.

Legitimately could make a sound case for any of the 5 and I wouldn't be opposed to any of them.

Not Prout. He was on the ice for the three goals against tonight and was a big reason for two of those goals. Stone should be playing ahead of him.

I'd say Fantenberg. He and Andersson were having some good chemistry going.

These are my two options:

Gio - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Fantenberg - Andersson

Or

Gio - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Brodie - Stone

Do we maybe see a lineup like this tomorrow?

Giordano - Stone
Valimaki - Prout
Fantenberg - Kylington

?

I'd love for Stone to step in and be just as effective as he was two years ago. He brings the same physicality that Prout does but is a much better player overall (assuming he's back in game shape mentally by game 1).

Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Brodie-Stone (in 2017 form)

This D-core is stupid deep.

I would agree with Stone if he had been playing, but he hasn't seen much ice in the last 2 or 3 months

Stone's played twelve games this, only once since November 11th and that's because we went with a 7D rotation. Sure there are three games left for him to get into game shape but if he was going to be the guy above Valimaki, Fatanberg, Kylington and Prout to play, I think he would've already been playing.

Solidly I'd have Kylington, Valimaki and Faranberg above him.

The lack of NHL icetime for Valimaki, Stone and Kylington lately tells me me they are numbers 8,9 and 10. In that order.

I'd say that Kylington would be the last choice.

Prout is in against a heavy team. But all in all I think it's between Valimaki and Fantenberg.

Yeah, I don't see Prout in against the Avs, I would think they want guys that can skate. Fantenberg, Kylington, Valimaki (though I agree that the rookies are going to be used sparingly)

Can’t see Valimaki getting in the lineup without an injury or two. He’s elite talent but he also hasn’t played all year and is a rookie. 3rd pairing guy needs to be a rock. I think it is fantenberg to start.

With what Fantenburg has done (sample size is small granted), I'm not sure how you could break that up.

Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Fantenburg-Brodie
Kylington

For me, Valimaki has been outstanding for a 20 year old in his first season as a Pro, but there's quite a few unknowns to be used a lot in the playoffs
