Was thinking exactly this. Staios gets a pass from this list from me for that tying goal.
The sheer exuberance he showed having scored against his former captors proved that liberation from #NoGoodness is possible and, when achieved, can provide never-before-imagined results.
(Smid almost gets a similar pass from me for his “This is how a real team practices” comments immediately after his liberation.)

I remember jumping around in the basement when Staios scored that goal against the Oilers.

I wonder if Brodie playing on the "3rd" pairing is more about giving the top 6 options for the playoffs, than it is about his play.
With Gio in Norris mode and the excellent play of Andersson, you can comfortably put those 2 together. That allows them to dress a rookie, or a Prout on the 3rd pairing and put Brodie with them. Brodie's ability to play both sides allows him to play with righties and lefties.
My guess is that Fantenberg dresses game 1 and plays with Andersson. But when injuries hit, or they want a different look, Brodie can play the right side with Valimaki or Kylington, or the left side with Prout, and Andersson can play with Gio.
I think they really want to avoid having 2 rookies playing together. Or depending on Prout to play with a rookie.
Edit: Totally forgot about Stone. But the theory still applies. Not to mention, Stone and Brodie have a history of playing pretty well together.
With this detail oriented coaching staff, I wouldn't put it past them to be thinking like this. If it were Gulutzan, Brendan Evans would be skating with Anders Eriksson.
I dont know right now if I slot Brodie with Giordano heading into round 1. Razzmatazz is feeling it now and having Brodie down manning his pairing is just fine. I think Cassie Camlbell hit the nail on the head last night. Brodies at his best in the 18-19 minutes a night range whereas he may end up playing closer to 23 with gio. If Having Andersson run with Gio keeps Brodie in his prime wheelhouse and gives the team better balance. Plus Brodie still get his special teams time.
Honestly, it doesn't matter much. The Flames this year have nothing but the best kind of problems when it comes to defensive depth.
Teams have to take a massive bloody chunk out of the d corps to thin it out. We still have 4 capable NHL level d men in the Flanks after the the 6 playing on any given night.
I cannot recall this happening ever with the Flames.
I think "Razzmatazz" might be as bad as "Benzo." Just... why?
