To me Bo’s batting has been incredible, with the exception of last year. I was a hater of his SS capability but it’s rarely costing the team games or anything but he should ideally play 2B. However, the Jays should only trade him if he’s not willing to re sign or they need to recoup prospects. To me he’s a star batter and everything you need for a batter (fouling off borderline pitches and waiting on good pitches). I personally would put up money he’d get back to normal next year. But you only trade him if you have to. And arguably you have to, because there aren’t high quality prospects knocking on the door and that is needed in the near future.

We all know Atkins will get shafted in a trade involving Bo

Not sure. But I truly don't think Atkins deserves the chance to do it when he's not the future leader of the team. I think the best time to can him is now. But knowing that it won't be done, I'm going to guess he'll be done within the first 40 games.

I doubt it. He doesn't take walks.

Yeah. Trading him this off season feels like selling low for sure. I think there's a good chance he bounces back especially since this is his big contract year, and if he does i think you need to deal him at the deadline if he won't re-sign.

An honest franchise would realize we aren’t contenders AND have a horrible farm system - the worse of both worlds - and start the rebuild . But Atkins won’t be here for the rebuild anyways so why not throw a Hail Mary

Brad Treliving situation IMO
This is 100% a Brad Treliving year. They know they've blown it for this build, they know they're screwed on their two biggest stars, so they're just trying to patch together a team with literally any stars that will sign here and hope to sneak into a wildcard spot so that they can keep their jobs after a "playoff" season".

Yep, that's my guess for sure,

Jays trade him at the deadline

Yeah the Jays are wandering around in no mans land right now.

They have money to spend, but FA's are wary because they don't have their core locked up and have a questionable immediate future. And that core has serious question marks anyways due to some very bad years recently. And the Jays always fight an uphill battle anyways as far as attracting high profile FA's to begin with because of location.

They may be forced into a rebuild after this season and may even blow it up mid season if they are out of the race again. That might be a better alternative though, rather than forking out over half a billion dollars over 15~ years to players like Vlad and Bo. They really haven't panned out to being what we thought they'd be just a few years ago.

As suspected, Toronto being used to get a player what he wants from his first choice.

Sounds like the Astros will be poking around Santander now that they traded Tucker to the Cubs. With Parades coming back in that trade they are clearly letting Bregman go though.

I like Santander, lots of power and he’s a switch hitter. I read today that he is looking for a 5 year deal, that’s a bit long for a guy who will be a DH first guy, and a guy who doesn’t really get on base.

Cautiously optimistic about bullpen
Yimi
Swanson (2nd half form)
Sandlin (replacing Romano who wasn't pitching)
Greene

Need some more depth can be ok. As always lots of variables

Apparently Vladdy turned down a $340m contract offer from the Jays, the offer was made before the Soto signing. Hector Gomez is saying that Vladdy is looking for $450-500m.

The Jays front office has to sit down and be extremely realistic with themselves and the chances of Vladdy and Bo signing long term. I think they have to take a pragmatic approach, similar to what Houston just did with Tucker. Time to put on the big boy pants, either pay them or trade them, stop drawing it out. The longer it goes on the more it costs to sign them or the less you get in return if you trade them. It’s time to pick a direction.

How can anyone blame him? He's not asking for Soto money. Is he 65% of the player Soto is? I think he's 85% of him. They're about the same age too. So you're getting a steal. Either pay it or trade him. I really wish ownership said enough and canned Atkins. The guy has failed so hard here.

This is why a 250 million extension should have been signed 3 years ago

Yep, Jays took way to long to address the extension....

I'm curious if they actually do anything to address the offensive issues with the club.

They have to. I thought Teo was signed by LA but it doesn’t seem like it’s a done deal. I don’t imagine he’ll cost a lot in years. So why not have him as our DH? If they can get Burns as the Ace and fill the rest of the lineup with average guys, they may have a fighting chance if the other teams falter. But it does look like they’ll need to trade Bo. Almost certainly he’ll bet on himself to not sign now. And he will rebound. Why not ask him who has a chance of resigning him and make a sign and trade? Regardless, I think he’ll bring back a hefty package. I know some here don’t think so but he’s such a good hitter.
