With all the big time lefties in the division, Crochet, Chapman, Fried, Rodon, McClannahan, the Jays better go find a lefty masher. Maybe a guy like Harrison Bader who can platoon with Varsho. Carlos Santana would make some sense as a DH/1B vs lefties, he had a .934 OPS vs lefties last year.

I hope we get Burnes, but he is going to cost more than what the Yankees paid for Fried. I have heard 7-8 years in the $240-250m range.

Almost our whole lineup is righties so in theory we should be good against lefties

We can’t hit righties either

As of right now, Loperfido, Wagner, Gimenez and Varsho would probably be in the starting lineup and they are all lefties, add in Lukes and Barger off the bench and there are quite a few lefties on the team.

Yep.

As of right now, this might be the opening day lineup:

Wagner - DH
Bichette - SS
Guerrero Jr. - 1B
Springer - RF
Varsho - CF
Kirk - C
Loperfido - LF
Clement - 3B
Gimenez - 2B

Hopefully there is an upgrade at LF, 3B and DH on the way. Not sure who is available that would be an upgrade at 3B besides Bregman, maybe Yoan Mocada on a 1 year proof it deal. Hernandez or Santander or both would go a long way to improving the lineup.

My guess that's not it, still think 2 more hitters will be acquired.

DH and fielder

Clements/Wagner are utility players not every day guys.

Of course Varsho will be on the DL. Jays already said he won't be ready from his offseason surgery

I think those moves will come via trade. I could see them targeting Bellinger as he checks a lot of boxes. I think if they can get a guy like Santander or Teo at the right price they will do it, otherwise I think they will sign depth guys. As Shi Dividi said, they will look at making more moves to raise the floor than ceiliing raising moves.

Why do we not believe in Clement ? He got better as the season went on and seemed to make good adjustments .

We Need SP , Bullpen and 2 Heavy hitting OF/DH

He is underrated on d. OK bat. Serviceable. See how year 2 goes. He is ok!

He is an ok, bench bat and utility guy. He has good bat to ball skills, but his swing decisions limit his ability to be an everyday player.

Just don't see them spending way over luxury threshold so I don't see it happening

Probably not, but between that and Atkins mismanagement of this team, they won’t be a playoff team next year. The Yankees are willing to spend, the Red Sox have one of the best farm systems in baseball and they seem ready to spend, and the Orioles have one of the best young cores of position players in baseball. Add in the Rays that always seem to find away to be competitive, and this Jays team even with major improvements will have a tough time not finishing last in the division.

Either they have to spend with the big boys or they have to rebuild, because they aren’t good enough to even be in the middle right now.

Other than just hope everything goes right, if Atkins and Shapiro want to keep their jobs they have to convince Rogers to let them spend over the threshold.

Spending won't solve their issues unless they go way overboard. LF, 3B, SP, RP, Closer, DH all need immediate help. Normally these would be filled internally. But with the terrible prospect base and nobody steady to take the reins this upcoming season, and limited budget, some of those positions will have to be settling. I'm guessing pitching and 3B will be from the discount bin, though there tend to be a ton of moving parts that could change plans any second.

Spending wont solve all of their issues. But it would solve some.

Haha. Yeah, same with realizing Romano was 31. I remember on here some hoping he’d make the team given his home roots. To now think that was probably ten years ago makes me feel the same way. Anyway, Clement is who he is. And to me that’s someone with a limited upside. I’m fine with him on a rebuilding or show me team, but he’s likely one of the weaker links batting wise. It’s becoming super apparent these days Atkins biggest failure is what they were advertised being their biggest selling point - creating a perennial contender through drafting. They really haven’t had much success there and that’s a shame.

The more I think about this, if I were ownership I’d make my move to fire the guy now that the Soto saga is done. He has no business making key decisions on Vlad and Bo. Bring in a new GM who has a vision. This guy has flubbed so much and continues to talk like a politician.

Yeah the inability to develop talent over the past decade is a glaring hole - and surprising with the regime they brought in.

Even the highly rated prospects we trade away relatively haven't done much

Even Moreno only put up a OPS+ of 105 last year , and anyone else we've dealt has effectively done nothing

It's going to be a lost decade - No playoff wins and leaving a horrible farm system

Only plus is very little money locked up into the future so a clean slate for whoever takes over
