If Bennett would've been the last to touch it, that last goal would be disallowed.

Zagidulin was probably watching from the bench thinking "Zis pathetic American lets many puck past hyim. Bah!"

HA HA! Easiest goal Johnny ever scored.
I am worried that black dots on your screen that are not the puck are moving....

No, that's how I figured out I was looking at the wrong thing because it didn't move.

One play that led me to post that was when Andersson was at the point, wound up and took a shot, and it looked like he completely missed the puck because it just stayed there. That's when I realized that the thing I thought was the puck wasn't.

I only got to see a little bit of the game but what I did see was some really awkward playing from Gillies. Is he okay? Zagidulin looked much better.

Frankly that's always been Gillies, hasn't it? He's made some incredible reactionary saves because he's out of position and/or swimming in his crease.

Gillies post game scrum looked and sounded like a player who sees the writing on the wall

Is Gillies gonna end up in the ECHL this season?

That's a huge drop for a guy who was a hair away from being the NHL back-up just one year ago.

No idea, but at this point the Flames have done about all they can do. The guy has had a ton of opportunities. I just don't think he's good enough to play regularly in the NHL. And at his age it's fair to question whether he ever will be. If the Flames move on from him I wouldn't be upset.

It's either that or he's going to be loaned out to another ahl team. Having a guaranteed contract of $725,000 makes him untradeable and nobody will pick him off waivers. If he goes to ECHL i wonder if he will be the highest paid player in the league?

Non Gillies question

Does Tal get the next start to shake off rust or luck or what ever it was last game?
Or does BSD get the start to get ready for season opener?

I think we will see a game split by Parsons and Zag then both Talbot and BSD will be given full games the rest of the way.

It's starting to feel like the best Gillies can hope for is to become another Curtis McElhinney-type story, and just like McElhinney before him, it will probably require him to go somewhere else and hope to fetch an opportunity to find his game. I'm rooting for the guy to turn it around, but he's really been trending in the wrong direction for too long.

I assume Talbot will get the start against his old team tomorrow.

Talbot, Lucic, Rieder, Davidson, and Gryba against Smith, Neal, Granlund, Peluso, Chiasson, and Russell.

Because he is not on an ELC, Gillies cannot be assigned to the ECHL without his consent.

It sounded like he had a tough year off the ice last year - fans and media wouldn’t know of - but there is a narrative about him from fans and media that’s he’s heard.

I still like him and his potential. He doesn’t doubt his abilities and that’s good. I think he just needs to get into his rhythm and have some solid performances.

Sorry, can you clarify what you're talking about? I'm confused by this.

Apparently Gillies lost both grandparents - who he was very close with - 3 weeks apart last year. As far as the narrative from fans and media, I think he's referring to the fact that most consider him to be a bust with little to no NHL potential.
