Museum over the Red Light District?

Looking for recommendations. Haven’t had a vacation in years. Layoff/life/pandemic all that crap. Wife and younger moving to Kelowna for hockey, older kid moving to Edmonton for UNI. We have a one week window in August. Want to something cool for a week. Probably will do nothing. Ireland would be cool, but that’s a long trip for a week.

We did Southern Ireland for 5 day (part of a bigger trip) and saw everything we wanted. It’s a bit of a longer flight, but really,.. it’s only 3 more hours than a flight to Cancun would be?

How about Scotland? Can fly direct to Edinburgh from Calgary with Westjet. Then can get tram direct into the city centre from the airport. Spend a couple of days in the city and then go back to the airport and rent a car and drive up to Dunkeld and Pitlochry (an easy 1-1.5 hr drive from the airport) or the East Neuk of Fife/St Andrew’s area. Stay your last night in the airport hotel and fly out in the morning. I do that trip in a week fairly regularly as I’m originally from that area but the direct flights to Edinburgh are a game changer.

Go check out NFLD or Haida Gwaii. White Point Resort in Nova Scotia is pretty awesome as well!

Depends on your budget, if you want plus/minus 2hrs or up to 8hrs timezone adjustments (both ways). Sometimes stay-cations are great, or a simple trip to Vancouver/island is awesome, or whatever a single direct flight from home city will get you... even if it's an all-inclusive on a tropical beach (cheap in August).

I did this in Salt Lake City last time, it was about a 4 hour layover. We just left and had a nice lunch and walk around, then went back. Nice way to break up the day and feel like you've seen somewhere else.

We are on a cruise to Alaska right now. Your kids would probably love it. Maybe you can get a last minute deal.

What are the best things to do in Barcelona, besides the Sagrada?

My young adult son needs to get his passport renewed, but it expired in November 2019. Does he need to fill out the long form application or is there an easier method?

Eat tapas and drink sangria. Montjuic fountain show. Go see a football game (or tour the stadium).

Guell Park is pretty neat in Barcelona

Las Ramblas is a bustling, busy touristy area, tons of street performers and tourist crap, just watch out for pickpockets.

Sign up for a bike tour. There are several other Gaudi exhibits/buildings if you're into architecture. Montserrat. Stroll La Ramblas.

That's not a renewal, it has expired.

That said it looks like there are circumstances that you can still renew an expired passport so he might be in lick that way.

"You can renew your passport even if it’s expired, damaged, lost or stolen New

You can renew your expired, damaged, lost or stolen passport if

it was issued within 15 years of the date you apply, and
you meet all the other requirements"

Montserrat is absolutely worth the trip if you have a spare day. Bring a picnic lunch(with wine, of course) and do the hike that isn't too hard, hardly anyone goes up there. Take the tram as high as you can and it's a gentle walk on nice trails.

Guell Park is a good recommendation. I know my buddy liked Casa Batllo (one of the Gaudi houses), but he is big into design and architecture. I ran up to Tibidabo, it looked like a theme/amusement park on top of a mountain, and the views of Barcelona from up there were incredible.

Like someone else said, just eat a bunch of tapas and drink wine (I ate a ton of croquettes when we were there!!!).

If your young adult son was a child when he got the now expired passport, he cannot renew. He needs to apply for a new adult passport.
