Happy to pay more taxes to fix this. First we need willing government.

So where is your line on health care spending? What is your acceptable wait time?

Doesn't it depend on what you're waiting for? I mean, it's an ER. If you go to the ER with something that isn't technically an emergency, that isn't going to get appreciably worse in 10 hours, that's very different than "actively bleeding from the neck".

You forgot walk in clinics.
I'm not saying they are better and most are just as jammed up as ERs sadly.

I'm not sure what the line is, I don't run the system. I think acceptable is getting through the waiting room in under 2 hours to see a doctor, or at least a nurse to start a workup for most issues. The problem with the ER isn't that the ER is not staffed well enough, it's just a result of the failure of all the other pieces of the system. Fix that, and the ER issues start to go away on their own.

People appeared to object to my didn’t die standard but for the purposes of my question is non life threatening and perhaps painful.

ER staffing is an issue too. I know an ER nurse who was the only Nurse on staff for 13 beds at the Children's hospital. There is supposed to be 6.

I don’t think people objected to your standard, people objected to your suggestion that the system works as well as it can for the money and that funnelling non-emergencies to the emergency room to wait 10 hours is the best way for the system to work.
That’s obviously absurd. You know that.

I at no point suggested that. I suggested that a 10 hour standard of care was reasonable and if you don’t die in an emergency room your visit was successful.
That you want to extrapolate my comments further is on you.

I may have missed it, but I can't help but think the new pay plan for BC doctors could be the last straw for many aggrieved Alberta doctors.
Quote:
The provincial government says a full-time family doctor will be paid about $385,000 a year, up from the current $250,000, under the new three-year Physician Master Agreement reached with Doctors of B.C. last week.

One province being openly hostile towards doctors while the one next door is showering them with money can't end well for the first.

It gets it a lot closer to AB, but AB still has a cost of living advantage. Not sure about tax rates.

Alberta had the highest compensation rates for full-time family doctors, at an average of $393,248 a year.

Looks like a few more councillors have some explaining to do — though I’m sure Chu isn’t worried because Calgary Police will just sweep the investigation under the rug.

3 hours maximum. That’s what I want and I will pay for that happily.

It also ends fee for service which could be a good thing for level of care.

Regardless of cost? We have no idea what kind of resources this would take. But I would think it would not be simple to do even if you threw all kinds of cash at it.
