Texas Canyon, Arizona. You need to go there so you can discover the mystery of...The Thing.

I recommend the Garden of Eatin restaurant in Willcox. Maybe the Flying J truck stop. And the Rex Allen museum of course. But let's be honest here. You're not going for the cuisine or the western culture. This is a right of passage. A spirit quest through the great American desert...both metaphorical and at the same time all so real. You'll have your Chicago's, your Bostons and your New Yorks. But they will be meaningless without knowing the mystery of....The Thing.

Personally if you are going for the weekend, as in 2 maybe 3 days, I wouldn't be flying for longer than 2 or 3 hours. But that's just me.

I did Dallas for 3 days last year for sports and I thought the flights were too much haha.

If you haven't been to New York.

Then go to New York.

Not to derail the thread for the op, but what about the beginning of March? My wife's birthday is the 4th, and I'm trying to find a city where the weather won't suck...

For a weekend, I'd be inclined to pick a smaller place - you won't feel like you've missed as much when you leave.

Just wrapping up a two week trip to Southern California and I can honestly say 3 days in San Diego was not enough. Beautiful city with lots to do and lots of history. Excellent dining esp if you like Mexican or seafood. In May you’d be able to catch a Padres game. Easy direct flight.

Other favourite US cities of mine are San Fran, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, and Houston.

Minneapolis is OK but only if tying in with a sporting event - otherwise do Chicago.

Phoenix is great for sports and golf but I find it has no character or culture.

Of course there’s always Vegas if you like night life, gambling, or people watching. Always a fun weekend trip.

Cities I don’t recommend are Denver, Salt Lake City, Dallas, and Miami.

Places I’d still like to go are NYC, New Orleans, Nashville, Austin/San Antonio, Boston, Washington DC, Charlotte, and Columbus. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are on my MLB stadium wish list.
