Default Lawyer Needed

Have a rental property. Water leak caused some damage and now theres mold. Insurance companies don't cover mold so the cost of mold removal and safety containment is falling on me which could be few thousands.

I'm looking for a lawyer to help me through this process but one thats not going to overly increase my overall cost.

Any recommendations? Thanks

You may get a free consult through this service:

https://www.lawsociety.ab.ca/public/lawyer-referral/

After that, you will have to decide if the retainer requested will be worth it.

you own the house or you rent? either way I would think owner pays 100%, not sure who the owner would be looking to for payment.

edit- I'm not a lawyer, just curious

I'd try to get a better idea of what the cost is going to be before hiring a lawyer. If you're looking at $2k in repairs, the cost of a lawyer, even a cheap one, won't make it worth it. Most lawyers will charge you a fee to review all the documents and provide an opinion, which in fairness will be several hours of work.

Or his renter ignored it and he wants a lawyer's opinion, but yeah lets run at insurers with limited info.

One thing I will say is if you cover this yourself, please ensure the company you have do the remediation knows what they are doing and are experienced.

I own the place.
It took place between two different tenants.
Break happened with the previous tenant and it came to forefront with the new tenants after few months into their lease.
Thanks Trout, ill try that.
