It's kinda nuts to think that Gio is one fluke injury away from being a 2x Norris trophy winner.

Normally I don't care too much about individual awards, but I find myself highly emotionally invested in this. Gio has come so far and worked so hard to become the player and leader he is. Anyone that doesn't seem him regularly, like we do, doesn't fully grasp how complete and consistent a player he is.
For him not to get this would be an utter tragedy.
Give the man what he deserves!

Who's the sixth? Unless they included the Finnish Valimaki?

Hahaha, typical United fan, making a Liverpool post (purely as an example - not even saying he was the best!) about a United player. People can appreciate both players, you know!

Zidane - "There was a point when Gerrard was the best midfield player in the world. It is unusual to get complete midfield players who can do everything, but that is what he was.”

Maldini - "And he was indeed one who did a lot and since he also had great talent, he was easy to follow. His story is one of those stories to be told, one of those fairytales, to be narrated to your children and grandchildren.”

Pele - "To me he is one of the super best midfielders in the world. He is an excellent player.”

Viera/Ferguson - "In my opinion he’s in the top three midfielders in the world, maybe the best right now. I heard what Alex Ferguson said about him being better than me. He’s probably right. Gerrard is England’s best player and he single-handedly got Liverpool into the Champions League."

Totti - "Steven Gerrard would be the captain of my World XI dream team.

Pirlo - "While at Milan he Ancelotti came to me and said, 'I want to sign Steven Gerrard to play next to you in midfield – what do you think?' Without any hesitation I told him, 'Do it – go and sign him.' At this stage he was probably the most complete midfield player in Europe, of course I wanted to partner him"

Etc.

Na no bother, I was just racking my brains to try and remember who we called up and wondered if any of those were Swedish aha.

It’s pretty obvious that Giordano should win it this year. The trophy goes to the guy who “demonstrates the greatest all around ability in the position”.

Third in goals, Second in points, First in +/-, Third in takeaways, 4 SHG, Sixth in PIMs, plays PP and PK, captain of the top team in Westerm Conference.

Takeaways vs Giveaways
Giordano 72 / 65
Rielly 59 / 88
Burns 85 / 114

Age shouldn’t be a factor but it’s hard to ignore the company he joined by being 35 and getting 70+ points.

He would be the first Flame to win it.

I think we care as much as we do because he should be the obvious winner. Honestly, if you don't think he's the best Dman in the game this year, you should turn in your PHWA card because you're not watching hockey properly.

If he doesn't win it will be a robbery.

A quick check of hockey-reference says that he'd be 1 of 4, aged 35 and over (should he win)

Doug Harvey
Al MacInnis
Nik Lidstrom

Unless I've missed anybody. Not bad company to be in.

Just of note: Gio is also nominated for the Masterton trophy. I also think he should be an obvious winner of the Messier leadership award.

The Norris is a given.

The man deserves serious consideration for the Hart trophy.

Deserves is one thing.

But for a guy who didn’t make it to the All Star game, and wasn’t anywhere on the player poll...he is clearly under appreciated and it’s definitely not a given

Oh I never underestimate POS writers. Iginla didn't win the Hart because a Montréal reporter left him off the ballot completely allowing Theadore to squeak out the top balloted votes?

I wouldn't be surprised if a writer left Giordano off completely in an attempt to have their guy win.
