They are having trouble with the drone program, so they decided to try working on harnessing mosquitoes to deliver packages. Winnipeg is perfect for this.

20% your purchase because delivery dude may possibly bite you and suck blood.
Yeah, that's excellent news. These are not the $100k type jobs, but still a fairly significant boost of employment to the area. Perhaps also a bit of a test case with the local work environment.
750 jobs, this is fairly significant. It's also the first distribution centre they will have outside Toronto or Vancouver.
I could have sworn (or it felt like) they had a distribution centre in Calgary. Figured anywhere they offered next-day prime shipping had a distribution centre. Obviously that isn't the case.
I guess that just means Amazon has been amazing at getting packages from Vancouver to Calgary overnight already. Can only get better from here.

There are a lot of places that we order items from in the states that that can ship an order out almost immediately, and have it here before noon the next day. Just depends on your manpower and logistics setup.
I would think that Winnipeg's pro's would be centrally located in the middle of Canada/north america and I would think that quality of life would be relatively good and similar to Calgary/Edmonton.
Calgary may offer proximity to mountain, while Winnipeg would offer proximity to lakes.

Lower cost of living. Won't have to pay as much to get good (local) talent. A couple benefits. (I am making a bold assumption that the cost of living isn't too high in Winnipeg compared to Calgary and Toronto)

But you also have that insane property tax in Winnipeg.

Employees confess the worst parts about working for Amazon

The article in The Times describes a "bruising workplace" where employees are asked to harshly critique their peers, and those suffering personal crises are often pushed out of their positions.

With Amazon Now I can order certain products and receive within 2 hours, or within a 2 hour window of my choice. Very cool.
