Let's Talk About Calgary's Lake Communities
I am interesting in hearing from posters that live in the various lake communities in Calgary.
Pros & Cons.
I have a specific interest in Sundance & Midnapore.

I've lived in both Sundance and Midnapore, currently live in Mckenzie Lake. The lake is nice to have and it's relatively cheap annually, we play $270 a year in fees. I really like Lake Midnapore, I think it's the nicest out of the three from a layout perspective. It's been 20+ years since I've been so it may have changed a bit. I don't really see any cons from living in a community with a lake. Skating, fishing, swimming whenever you want is always nice.

Auburn Bay or Mahogany. Which lake is better?

I should have also mentioned I am interested in schools as well.
my understanding is that Auburn Bay Jr High is in Ogden and Sr High is HWW HS.

Without exception, every lake community is better than every other non-lake community, so you can't really go wrong here.

I believe in the Pony Power

We live in Lake Chaparral.
Pluses
- The lake is great during the spring/summer. My family loves it and we certainly use it enough to make it worth having
Cons
- We are way the eff out there in terms how far south the neighborhood is. I spend far too much time in the car. Sickens me when I think about how much of my life I am wasting away doing that
We love the area and the lake is great but ultimately we are looking to move more back to the inner city because it is just too far.
But if you are looking at Sundance, I would recommend at least considering Chaparral particularly if want a newer home. It is just one community south.

Are all the lake communities stocked with fish? I've done some fishing at Auburn Bay and the fish were massive.
I'd seriously move to that neighborhood for the fishing alone.

The houses in Chaparral are super nice. I like that community a lot. Would probably be great if you worked in Foothills Industrial area or South Calgary Campus (or whatever that hospital is called), but if you work downtown or something that commute would be a bit much.

Sorry- looks like they are only K-6. I know Catholic students go to Bishop O'Byrne for now, and the Legacy high school will be open in 2 years.
Haven't looked any further as my son graduates before that.

Sundance is flush with schools. Catholic elementary, 2 public elementaries, public junior high and a public high school all in the community. I believe there is also a Catholic high school across Macleod in Shawnessy.

This seems to indicate there is a local elementary school in the community. High school is EP Scarlett based on what I see.

Only Elementary, public school Junior High and High School are located in Sundance.
I also live in Chaparral, nice community really quiet.
Lake has lots of activities in the Summer and Winter.
