I'd put it on par with receiving an email full of grammatical and spelling mistakes. Yeah, I can understand it, but it's still annoying.
How else should they send it?

I never send anyone anything in a format other than PDF unless that format is needed for a specific reason. In many cases, that is my work and may represent my company. The potential for abuse exists if you send documents out that are in an editable format.

You're misunderstanding. I'm not advocating using something other than PDF (I use it exclusively when I mail a document personally). I'm saying if it's > 5MB and there's nothing but text in it, there's some sort of problem.

That's kind of a silly argument. You don't have to make every component of something to be responsible for it. If I make a piece of software that kernel panics the machine should I not be held responsible because I didn't code the bytes of the kernel?

I am going to have to agree with BlackEleven here. Sometimes I get get attachments or download a document and say to myself all the time "Really, 4mb for one page?" Speaks to the professionalism of the content creator.

Depends on the content creator, if it's someone who I think should know better then maybe, if it's someone who I don't think should have to know or care about PDF sizes then I don't really care.

In fact if my lawyer knows about PDF sizes, I'm paying him too much! He gets paid to know laywering, not PDFing!

Now I might have opinions about my lawyer's IT guy though...
