My Blackberry is draining my data
Anyone ever have this happen to them?
I have 500 MB with my plan and have never went over 100MB in a month.
Now my phone is using about 50 mb a day and I'm barely using it and when I do I'm on my wifi. I don't download anything.
I called Rogers after I received a text that I went over and they told me as per company policy they can't discuss unbilled charges so I'd have to wait untill the billing period came.
Makes no sense to me as I think my phone might have a virus or a glitch that is making it use data. I'm up to 600MB over and the billing month isn't even half over.
I deleted all my third party Apps and it's still having the problem. I just hope they don't force me to pay for the data I'm not using.

Call Rogers every day. Get them to tell you what is causing the data traffic.
It's utter crap that any company will give you that line about un-billed traffic.

Have you tried shutting it off when you aren't using it?

My suggestion would be to turn it off completely until Rogers actually gives you a straight answer. You're already 600MB over and Rogers isn't doing anything so the problem will probably still go on, so just turn it off, bitch at Rogers until they give you an answer.

I've found that on my Torch, I have to occasionally remember to 'switch application' and check to see what others apps I have running in the background. I tend to minimize instead of completely close programs, so I've had some apps draining my data in the background for no reason.

I have no third party apps anymore and it doesn't give me the option to delete the Apps the phone came with. Looks to be a problem from one of their apps (that I never use)
Kind of annoying that Rogers won't do nothing just because the billing period isn't over. I've called in 3 times already complaining so it's on record as being a problem. I can't just shut off my phone because I need it for work.
I'm going to give them a call on Monday and have them re-format my phone. I have no clue how to do that, but I'm sure that will fix the problem. Thanks for the input.

Maybe a drink lid was improperly installed, causing pop to spill on it?

have you used GPS navigation on it lately? That uses up a lot of data and if you don't turn it off it might be running and using up data. I'd double check to make sure that isn't happening.

so frustrating. I can see why the maybe allow stuff to keep running but when you press the home key it should at least give you an option to exit or keep it runnnig in the background.

I had two apps that did that to me. My BB maps was frozen trying to locate me and used a ton and if I leave NHL Gamecenter on it drains my data and my battery. Great app except for that part

The good news is Rogers charges something like 5 cents per Mb when you go over you plan allowance in Canada.

Thats it? If it's only that much then it's not even worth calling them.
I still need to fix the problem though, but won't be too upset if I have to pay $30.
I was hearing stories of people having to pay hundreds and sometimes thousands for about 600 MB over.

I paid $200 hundred for data use in the States even though I bought an international plan from Rogers. But their rates within Canada are reasonable. I had the same panic the first time I went over my 500, now I don't care and my "limit" is only a vague guideline considering I don't download movies or anything big.

You can just hold the blackberry button for a few seconds and it will show which applications you have open. No need to go and 'switch application'.

My office administrator got a nasty surprise last summer thanks to something similar happening on my Blackberry.
Turns out a program I had installed crashed at some point. It didn't show up when I was switching programs but it was there, apparently, in the background doing something online from time to time. A battery pull cleared the program and solved the problem.
