Curse of Oak Island
I saw the end of an ad on TV. It is a show on History i think?
Has anyone seen this? Growing up down east this was a huge story, in fact I remember studying it in school.

I think this is some sort of Eastern Canadian take on 'The Ring.'
Good luck watching your 'documentary.' It was nice knowing you.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. My family's cottage is very close to Oak Island so I've always been interested in the story.

There was a Canadian author who wrote a mystery series featuring a brother-sister duo - it was targeted for pre-teens, early teens. One of his books was about Oak Island. I think that's the only reason why I know about it. Be damned if I can recall the author's name though, but I do remember bits from that book series. I"ll try to remember to PVR it.

Is this a documentary or a docu-drama?
It looked like a scripted show from the synopsis, which doesn't really interest me.

I have friends that used to love across from the Oak Island Resort, and others that got married there (sadly I couldn't make the wedding).
I too learned about it in school. It's a neat story and legend.
21st century, we can frack oil out of the ground, and from under the sea but can't get a treasure chest out of a well. We really should rename the oak island Treasure "Timmy O'Toole's Gold".

It's an amazing and fascinating story. I guess the problem is, it is literally a money pit.
To employee oilfield technology to extract whatever is at the bottom might not have a good ROI. Not sure how much it would cost to put a casing around the area to prevent the water ingress, and then pump whatever water is in there out. It should be simple though; more complicated things have been done in the world.

It kind of sounds like "Magic Treehouse". My son has been bringing a lot of those home from school and it sounds vaguely similar to the themes in this series of books.

No, but after about 20 minutes of googling, I finally found it - Eric Wilson - Ghost of Lunenburg Manor - I thought the title had Oak Island in it, but I guess I was wrong. Brother sister was Tom and Liz Austen. Man, that was not easy to find!

Ha. He came to my elementary school and did a book signing/talk. Those are great books for kids.

Looks purely documentary/reality to me. Which instantly made it less interesting to me, but it does seem to have some real lifr mystery around the curse and "money pit" so I will watch the 4 episodes I was able to obtain and see how it goes from there.

So I watched it last night.
I enjoyed it, but I think it is because it reminds me of my youth.
It had all the typical shots and other elements you would expect of this type of show.
I will continue to watch it, but only because of my prior knowledge and interest in the island.
