The avs are significantly better now than when they beat the flames.

Thinner?? I disagree. Kerfoot has wheels but plays die on his stick. He has no idea what to do with the puck.

At worst it’s lateral for this season, but now they get to keep Kadri for 3 seasons at a bargain. They would have likely seen Barrie walk.

Is it possible (or just wishful thinking) that both teams lost this trade? Leafs still don't have a defenseman on the right side that can play defense and in a years time will have nothing to show for Barrie as they wont be able to afford him. They may not be able to afford Kerfoot either to be honest.

Avs give up a good young winger and give up a good mentor to their young defense for a potential head case at center. This doesn't really improve their forward depth.

Some mental gymnastics and wishful thinking...but I dont think this trade is that great for either team. Having said that...it's far more value than Brodie and Bennett/Janko...

If that was the price, I’m glad he isn’t coming here. Overpayment by Aves. I don’t know why Barrie has perpetually been rumored out of Colorado. Solid defenseman who has put together constantly solid seasons on their back end

I really hope the Flames don’t miss out on a good return because they hold on to Brodie too long...

If that deal somehow shockingly goes through Puljujarvi or a better sweeter better be coming with him.

I still think if Neal goes to the Oil the return will be other bad contracts like Russell and Ganger/Manning or something like that

How?

Out: Barrie, Soderberg, Kerfoot, Andrighetto, Varlamov

In: Kadri, Rosen, Donskoi, Bellemare, Burakovsky

The Avs lost a top-pair dman, a second-liner, a middle-six winger, a bottom-six winger, and a starting goalie and added a top-six forward, a middle-six winger, a bottom-pair defenseman and two bottom-six forwards

They're not even done yet. Still have 27m in cap space. They have RFA's to re-sign but could still add someone like Dzingel

Hyman Tavares Marner
Kapanen Matthews Nylander
Kerfoot Spezza Johnsson
Agostino Gauthier Bracco
Moore/Petan

Rielly Barrie
Muzzin Ceci
Dermott Harpur
Marincin/Gravel/Holl

Andersen
Hutchinson

If they can make it work with the cap, this team will be good

Well they usually do make this mistake with core players.

Iginla, Regehr, Kipper, Cammalleri..

I look forward to a 4th and 6th for Brodie.

So they upgraded big time up the middle and on the wing. Their blueline took a hit but they also drafted the best D available in the draft that will be adding Makar to the regular season roster.

Avs are significantly better right now in my opinion

They also turned an expiring contract into a reasonable 3 year pact for Kadri

Meh. There are all sorts of factors that go into winning and losing a playoff series, and quite often they are not repeatable. I still think the Flames roster as of today is a good bet to once again challenge for the Division, and to win in the playoffs.

Colorado doesn't scare me.

It's Treliving now. I think we have a smarter GM than we did at the time of those guys

Could still make some good moves to really shore up their 2nd and 3rd lines. Dzinglel, Ferland, Williams all available

Doubt it happens at all. The only person suggesting it is Friedman and I think he's doing it to satisfy some perverse joy.

Am I the only one that looks at the bottom 3 D and the bottom 4 forwards and backup goalie and wonders if any of them are NHL players on other NHL teams?

I actually don’t like this deal for the leafs despite the value they received. It doesn’t address there needs on defence. Barrie is essentially a right handed Gardiner that they don’t have room for moving forward. They don’t clear any cap room either as Kerfoot should come in around 3m. The Leafs are an embarrassingly soft team as it sits today.

We could use the space maybe they trade for Brodie. Teams still need to create space to sign their RFA’s.
