That would've been a great trade but I don't know if I trust the source.

I have to think Mike Hoffman is next on Treliving's radar. But dwelling on this would-be trade is ultimately a pointless exercise.

That would have been a good deal for Calgary. Kadri is better than Janko and Brown is better than Bennett. Would have been a landslide for the Flames for the first time in dealing with Toronto.

Calgary would have taken on even more Cap in that deal.
The Barrie was far superior for Toronto, not sure if I think this is entirely accurate.

Money well spent. I think the idea behind a Brodie trade is to upgrade the forward group. Frolik would be the move to make cap space

The Brodie trade ideas are not for cap purposes. Calgary has a glut of NHL defensemen and a need for forward help. The cap problems are more for a Frolik or Stone trade, or, if that fails, a Neal buyout.

Calgary already needs to move some people for cap reasons. Trading Brodie and taking on more cap just means they likely need to move 2-3 guys with no cap coming back.

We would have bought out Kadri or sent him to the AHL. You don’t threaten a Giordano and it be forgotten.

Janko was going out too. That's another 1.6m. The brown contract would have been negligible. No mention of and salary retention either like the Barrie trade.
Flames would have moved out 6.33m and taken in 6.6.
270k difference. That's not an extra player.

Chris Johnston says a 3rd team was involved. Simmons suggests that wasn't the case. I'd take Johnston's word over Simmons.

I hope he gets booed everytime the Avs play in Toronto. His stupid/selfish antics cost the Leafs in last years playoffs against the Bruins.

It would have been a bad trade. We don't need Kadri and his selfish antics on our team. Glad the trade fell through.

Looking at it, trade or no trade, moving out Frolik would be more than enough

Ryan Pike speculating the 3rd team would've gotten Connor Brown to make the money work.
4.6504 (Brodie) + 1.675 (Jankowski) => Toronto
2.1 (Brown) => 3rd team
4.5 (Kadri) => Calgary
So Calgary would've been getting a wonderful 2/3 C and dropping 1.8254 in salary if Ryan Pike's speculation was hypothetically correct. That would've been sweet.

That sucks. Kadri would really a lot to this roster. He is pretty much exactly what we need and players like him in their prime aren’t available often. Anyone who didn’t want him simply doesn’t want a better team.
My next target would be Blake Coleman although he has a lower offensive upside.

Help, save, whatever.
|
Brodie and Jankowski for a similar package the Leafs gave up to the Avs is a lot worse for the Leafs.
Barrie 50% retained and Kerfoot is a lot. Kind of glad he used his NTC.

Yeah, the COL returns seems much better. Though you have to figure the chances of re-signing Brodie vs the ability to re-sign Barrie for Toronto might have been important as well.
50% retained of Barrie for a year is great, but that might be it. Whereas Toronto might have been bringing Brodie in long term. Of course they might still be able to sign him next summer, but he could also extend during the year, be it with the Flames or a new destination.
