Can't comment on outside city as I don't roam (cheapskate, that's why I'm on Wind), but I work at the Health Sci campus and spend a fair amount of time on main campus and have no problems with reception except inside. Campus seems to be wired for Rogers and Telus indoors, so Wind people have to go outside to make calls. I get full reception in the HRIC and HSC atrium. I get full signal in the Oval and upper floor of kinesiology, and outdoors across campus.

-Mountains are considered roaming
-Even back in 2010 when I first signed up there was decent coverage on campus, but only outside and near windows. The old concrete buildings are too thick for their high frequencies to penetrate.
-I have very good and fast coverage at home in the NW
-Travelling on 14 St and Shaganappi Tr around Nose Hill is always spotty

Been on Freedom for a few months and so far I'm satisfied. They don't have visual voicemail for iPhones and I was thinking that would be annoying, but I realize I hardly ever get calls now so it isn't a big deal to cope with until they put it in.

Haven't had any issues with coverage or speeds, it's been really fast.

I'm in the Kinesiology building a fair amount of time on campus, so this is a concern of mines. Are you using a phone that has a LTE band suited for their new infrastructure? I'm curious if the LTE would stand better in the buildings with heavy concrete presence then. For reference, I'm with Koodo currently and works fine in most parts of the building, save a dead spot in the basement. Although since it's high frequency as well, will it make much of a difference? Since there's less people using it, that should help right?

Less people using it doesn't mean that it'll penetrate the building better... by that logic, nobody is using cell signal on Mars so there should never be any issues with communicating with rovers.

Less congestion could improve transmission amounts and speeds, which really isn't an issue unless there's 50,000 people at the stampede grounds all trying to snapchat eachother.

I have the Pixel 2 XL and it's been okay.

Band 13 Low band spectrum has gone up in BC. Hopefully they start roll out in Calgary within the month.

Been pretty happy with Freedom mobile overall. But I have an issue of not receiving phone calls frequently. I'm suspecting this has more to do with me using a oneplus3 than it is the cell service.

Bump.

How's life at Freedom? Tempted to make the switch now that my plan is almost up. I live up in the deep NW (Sage Hill), go out of town to camp but rarely use my phone when I'm out there.

Switched the wife to Freedom. Coverage downtown and in buildings is abysmal compared to Rogers. I get yelled at daily for trying to save a few bucks.

Ride out the yelling for a few more months. Once band 13 launches it'll be worth it since reception should improve greatly. They just completed the band 4 stuff and band 13 is in testing in BC right now.

They rolled out wifi calling on their network so a lot of people are having issues with calls right now.

Freedom kind of sucks. Lots of missed calls, texts and especially picture texts.

You get what you pay for I guess?

When I was on wind my reception downtown was really good, in buildings and out. Never had an issue. Maybe it depends on the phone.

Phone reception along city limits, that’s a different story.

Might be a moot point since this was a few years back.

Freedom just put out a bunch of low cost plans to undercut the competition. The new home plans are pretty good for people who don't use a whole lot of data.

New pricing tiers:
  • 250MB, 100 minutes outgoing talk and text, unlimited incoming $15
  • 500MB, unlimited talk and text $25
  • 1TB, $0.05/min talk, unlimited text $25
  • 2TB, unlimited talk and text $40
