How regular is the coverage, mid season? Daily weekly?

I've been starved for decent Flames coverage from non eastern sound bit factories. I've been holding off though, because I don't really care about any of the other leagues, or NHL teams for that matter.

I have been skimming around the app today. While there is some decent flames coverage and the addition of Haynes is huge I am not sure I would spend the money for Flames coverage alone. I do like to follow the NFL, NBA and the rest of the NHL and seeing how much content there is for all of those sports i am happy with the purchase today.

My subscription was just up for renewal last week. The product was pretty good, however I felt like the existing cast of writers (although good) were missing the mark for me in terms of balance so I cancelled my subscription.

The addition of Cruickshank and Haynes specifically had me log back in and renew my subscription today. For me, he's the perfect balance of using data driven analysis matched nicely with the ability to tell a compelling story and he does it without having to pull out obscure words from a thesaurus or spending half the season in California/Nevada while writing about the Flames.

Is Haynes going to continue with her personal website? Or is that content now going to be Athletic material only?

Congrats to him, he's a solid sports writer.

I would assume the blog site will no longer be updated and if so likely even more rarely than it is today.

Darren just posted his first article with exceptional detail regarding the flames lines and how Bill Peter's wants to utilize his players. I have not been reading FF80F as long as some of you, but this is exactly the kind of content we need in Calgary. The Athletic is free this week so if you have a chance, give it a read. The article is called: "Who's up First?" Very impressed with his ability to articulate and present his thoughts and sources.

Signed up - $36 for a year, and I know I’ll read a bunch of Flames articles, as well as Stamps, some NBA, and NFL.

I was seeing around 2-3 articles per week last season and that was with just Wilson writing.

You will also see some league wide news show up in your feed, articles from Lebrun, Duhatchek and Bourne fall in to this category and are definitely worth the read.

You also get the odd stat heavy article if it concerns the Flames from writers like Dom Luszczyszyn and Tyler Dellow.

Between the Flames, Jays, MLB, NHL and Premier League coverage I see a ton of quality articles. With the 50% discount it's worth it IMO.

The one thing to keep in my with the Athletic is that if you're expecting game recaps, quick hits, breaking news stories etc., you're not going to be happy. It tends to be comprised of longer-form journalism that is less about day-to-day happenings, and more about deeper stories and less time-sensitive topics.

I think of it more like a magazine than a newspaper. Fewer, but deeper, stories.

I'm so close to finally doing it. In spite of me saying I would never e-e-e-ever pay to read a website.

I had heard this about a week or so ago but simply didn't know for sure.

Excellent news and honestly enough to make me a subscriber in short order.

I felt it was hit and miss last season, but with two additional writers, that can only get better this season.

#### it. I finally subscribed. Haynes is one of my favorite writers in general, and he covers my favorite team with gusto. The rest is just gravy.

Default The Athletic is expanding in Calgary

Kent Wilson’s work is unreadable , but having some real journalism with Duhatschek, Cruikshank and Haynes should make it worthwhile. Last year was not worth it. Duhatschek’s content was great, but too infrequent and then the only other stuff was Wilson’s math abstracts.

Who does do a great job of using the numbers and making it readable is Bingo. Lucky for us we don’t have to pay for it.

True to my word, I’m uncancelling and re-subscribing after hiring Haynes.
