Yes there is a window after the puck leaves that the hit is still allowable, which was a close call in this case. It was called interference so the official deemed that the hit was slightly late.

So not a clean hit then? Slightly late is a bit of an understatement here.

There is not enough bump and hugs in the World...MacAvoy could have started something beautiful.

Not at all, if you look at it in real time, not super slow-mo, it is very close to being a legal hit.

I was gonna play the puck in the corner, but then I got high
I was gonna pull up, I swear bud, but then I got high
Now Shanny's giving me a call and I know why,
Because I got high,
Because I got high,
Because I got high.

I guess that would be two minutes for interference, with no suspension.

Little bit of, and I'm sure Johnny is good.

This is off topic but I just saw The Athletic article about the North America / Sweden game and enjoyed these quotes about Johnny:

https://theathletic.com/578949/2018/...uture-arrived/

Quote:
GRONBORG (Team Sweden head coach): Gaudreau was probably the best player on the ice that game.

TROCHECK: He’s different. You’ll get one of him in an era, basically. He’s a completely different player than the normal star you see in the league. He’s obviously quick, he has a phenomenal set of hands. He’s a little guy who is extremely shifty. He has his own way of making do with what he’s got.

NATHAN MACKINNON: I was playing with Johnny Hockey and (Ryan) Nugent-Hopkins and we were awesome together. I’d love to play with Johnny Hockey on a line. He’s amazing.

TIPPETT: Johnny was really good the whole tournament. He was a sleeper. All the other guys were getting the attention. Johnny was just dynamic in games. He’d control games. The other teams would focus so much on McDavid and Johnny would get lost in the shuffle and he’d play against the lower end, then bottom end players, and he would just control games.

Have to put this here as I found it funny...

Got some Tim Hortons trading cards for my nephew the other day who is 6 years old. He gets a Johnny Gaudreau card and he says "Grandpa?" "Johnson Grandpa?" "Who the heck is Johnson Grandpa?"

I now refer to Gaudreau as Johnson Grandpa. Ok sorry, carry on

Monahan would gleefully take this and make it a thing in the locker room.
