First of all, my 'accusation' against France was heavily tongue-in-cheek. I'm very aware of players of different Nationalities playing for other Countries because between Colonialization and various other socio-political upheavals in Europe there is a lot of immigration from various groups.

I generally have no problem with it, I just thought it would be funny to break them up into different groups for the stupid-huge upcoming tournament.

Kind of like how we joke that Canada could field two hockey teams at the Olympics.

This place is kind of touchy considering we've just had a really good World Cup overall.

That's the thing - if you're an immigrant you're from the country you immigrated to. I get that there's some issues, particularly here, with players who are born and raised in country X but play for country Y. But aren't the French roster pretty much all born and raised French, or immigrated to France as young kids? I don't care where your parents are from, if you grew up in France, nobody should be making the claim that you're from somewhere else.

Only Umtiti and Mandanda are born outside of France.

They both moved to France at age 2

Another generation of young players will look back at these champions of Croatia in 20 years as their inspiration to propel Croatia to new heights. Talked with my Dad, and my Uncle a lot last few days about what football means to Croatia, and the national team. Our identity as Croatians --their identity-- (although I love my heritage its not the same) is absolutely linked to football. Soccer was a very real part of sparking of the fight for independence against Serbia and become a single independent Croatia. The sting of the loss will last a while; the disappointment in my Dad's voice when France got their 3rd goal really hurt. But seeing Croatias reaction to their team and my Dad's hopefulness for 2020 makes it easier to deal with. What a ride. Move over 1998, 2018 was nearly perfect.

Not that I have anything against Championship Rings, but why would they want that?

If anything, I'd at least want mine to have the right number of stars above the Coq.
