2019/2020 - Flames Opening Lineup
I was trying to guess our 2019-2020 opening lineup for the 1st regular season game and it was not that obvious due to the abundance of centre players on the roster. I do believe Peters will let Lucic play on the 2nd line, at least for a bit, to see if he can keep up. If he can, it would be a really tough second line to play against. If he can't keep up (and I believe it's a more likely scenario), I think he's gonna be swapped with Frolik and moved down a line to play on the 3rd, with Bennett and Jankowski, eventually, which is not too bad of a line either. Anyway, here's my guess:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Lucic - Backlund - Tkachuk
Bennett - Jankowski - Frolik
Mangiapane - Ryan - Czarnik
Giordano - Brodie
Hamonic - Hanifin
Andersson - Valimaki
Rittich
Post your opening lineup guess for bragging rights to whoever guesses it correctly. Hey, it's July...

I think Dube will be on the opening night lineup.
Brodie will be traded, Frolik kept for lack of RW - we don’t have the cap unless either Frolik or Brodie go.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Mangiapane-Backlund-Tkachuk
Bennett-Ryan-Frolik
Lucic-Jankowski-Dube
Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Valimaki-Kylington
Stone
Rittich
Talbot

Current:

Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Jankowski - Bennett
Mangiapane - Ryan - Czarnik
Dube, Quine
Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic

Need to clear about $2.5 million if Tkachuk signs for $7.5 million cap hit.
Frolik, Brodie, Stone the most likely to be moved IMO.

It’s probably way too early for this since there has to be a couple of moves to be made. I still think at least Brodie and maybe Frolik are traded and another right winger is brought in.
This is what I hope it looks like up front:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Lindholm - New Winger
Lucic - Backlund - Jankowski
Mangiapane - Ryan - Dube
It more likely looks like this up front:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - Bennett
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Dube
Giordano - Andersson
Hanafin - Hamonic
Valamaki - Stone
Kylington
Rittich
Talbot

Why are people still pencilling in Frolik? He won't be here after last years debacle. Just a matter of time.

Bold prediction: Tkachuk will not be signed, and Brodie and Frolik will still be on the roster (Stone will either be bought out or traded for a pick with salary retained):
Gaudreau Monahan Lindholm
Dube Backlund Frolik
Lucic Ryan Bennett
Mangiapane Jankowski Czarnik
Quine
Gio Andersson
Hanifin Hamonic
Valimaki Brodie
Kylington
Rittich

I just don't see a future where Frolik is on the team to begin the year. I think both sides are looking for a fresh start.
If he's gone, then neither Stone nor Brodie need to go anywhere. I'd honestly be shocked if Stone is bought out, it makes no sense at all.

They don’t absolutely need to trade Frolik or Brodie. They can make the team fit under the salary cap by buying out Stone and going 13F, 7D, 2G.
This, then, is my prediction for the opening day lineup.
Gaudreau (6.75) - Monahan (6.375) - Lindholm (4.85)
Tkachuk (8) - Backlund (5.35) - Bennett (2.55)
Mangiapane (1.2) - Ryan (3.125) - Frolik (4.3)
Lucic (5.25) - Jankowski (1.675) - Czarnik (1.25)/Dube (0.778)
LW - C - Dube (0.778)/Czarnik (1.25)
Giordano (6.75) - Brodie (4.650400)
Hanifin (4.95) - Hamonic (3.857143)
Valimaki (0.894166) - Andersson (0.755833)
Davidson (0.7) - RD
Rittich (2.75)
Talbot (2.75)
Buyout: Brouwer (1.5), Stone (1.166667)
Salary Cap: 81.5
Cost of Roster: 51.463 + 21.857542 + 5.5 + 2.666667 = 81.487209
Salary Cap Space: 0.012791

Frolik and Brodie have both already been traded in deals that fell through...it's not much of a reach to suggest they won't be here. Especially Fro

I don't have to be Brad to realize you don't keep a disgruntled player on the team. Like this is pretty much common sense. We don't need the distraction and Brad knows this.

I just put him because he's still here but noted he's most likely moved.
However, maybe he's not disgruntled anymore? Maybe his biggest beef was Neal? I dunno, just tossing ideas around.

I think Frolik was perfectly in the right to speak up. Neal was playing like crap, being gifted time, and hurting the team. Frolik’s agent advocated for his client who was being healthy scratched. It wasn’t an extended sideshow or anything.

Plus, he can't be Brad. He didn't say the word "process" at all.
