the best starfighter was Scar, the Cylon Raider from the re-imagined series. It was a blood thirsty cylon who learned from each mission and each kill. Could resurrect, and hated humans as much as humans hated it. Plus it had a bad-ass name, and a great and bloody ending

The writers ability to give a machine personality and character was brilliant. It meant something for Kat or Starbuck to kill Scar, unlike the random killing and explosions of nameless tie fighters, for example.

Space Above and Beyond did something similar (but less effective, IMO) with Chiggy von Richthofen.

I watched babylon 5 recently again and it holds up pretty good and is definately superior to DS9 which was dreadful pre dominion.

B) BattleStar Galactica (re-imaged) - I would have picked the Imperial Star Destroyer but the Galactica is exactly how a warship should be engineered for space combat. The bridge is located in the center of the ship with no vulnerable "windows."
