Default Cutting The Cord - Cable TV

So I have been thinking of cutting my cable this summer. Any advice to get by for those nights we need some TV?
Also in the fall there will be a huge temptation to reconnect, as we enjoy cable shows (HBO, various comedies: Parks and Rec, modern family etc). Is there a way to get these VERY easily without cable? Sports?

Legally there is no way to get HBO without subscribing to it on a cable package. If you know someone who has HBO you could borrow their login and watch using HBO GO (their on demand service), while not illegal it's probably against the terms of service of HBO and the cable provider.

Can you get HBO Go account in Canada, for use while traveling (or via vpn/proxy)?

One word.... err acronym.

VPN.

Then US Netflix, Hulu, Network TV sites etc.

I did this 2 years ago, and will never be robbed by Shaw ever again. I maintain a US post office box, and Washington State cell phone # for other reasons, so it makes everything hugely simple.

Only reason I have cable is for watching NHL and other sporting events. If there was a way to get that with HD quality, I'd cut my cable cord.

There's already a thread going on this topic; and the same subject line as well.
