Arizona has such terrible asset management. 3/4 years removed from these guys being the 3rd and 12th overall picks. And even today, Schmaltz is OK but isn't that great imo, he played 18 minutes a game last year with good players including powerplay and got 50 pts.
I guess Strome is trending the wrong way but giving up on the 3rd overall pick at 21 is horrible imo. And Perlini scored 17 last year, almost as many as Schmaltz with 14 mins a night.
Another bad trade for Arizona is my initial impression.

Well, I think it's more that their system is anemic and the chemistry between the collected group is a mismatch. They traded for Stepan who at the time was the Rangers #1 guy. He's got more offense to him than whats been produced in the desert. I just don't see how condensing their offense into Schmaltz is a good thing.
I'll wager Strome and Perlini produce more in CHI.

I think in 5 years Schmaltz will be seen as the best of these 3 players but I am kind of surprised this is all Arizona got in return.

On the face of it, it appears CHI win this one, but it's a definite 'come back and see in 2 years' trade.
Good job Perlini doesn't represent GB internationally otherwise I'd have to hate him now.

Have to wonder if something was known in advance, or, this was a result of today’s game. Coyotes looked like pure trash defensively today and just mentally not there. That Janko goal 1 on 4 short handed is about as terrible a team goal against as there is at the NHL level that would drive coaches beyond nuts given all the discipline and systems they teach.

Chayka giving up way too early on Domi and Strome imo.
If he was GM here he would have fired Bennett into the sun years ago.
So glad we have Treliving.

Not a good couple of weeks for the Strome brothers ...
No, wait ... Edmonton to the Rangers and Arizona to Chicago?
It looks like Christmas came early for the Strome family.

well Domi is shooting above 20% this year so I don't think he's lost that trade yet

Yotes really missed on that draft, missing on a lot of high end players. 2015 draft class turning out to be pretty deep. Marner, Rantanen, Barzal, Chabot, Boeser, Hanafin, Werenski, Meier, plus Guys like Debrusk, Provorov, and Connor looking like solid picks as well.

The Domi trade was horrid for Arizona, players with similar skills but one of them was a softie perimeter player.

Not to mention Chicago firing a top 5? all time coach after getting beat by the Flames.

Seems like a desperation move by Chayka. He has been trying hard to add legit top 6 centers for the past two years and the team is currently playing very bad.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
CHI is banking on a few things in this trade with ARI:
1. Strome will be able to play 2nd line centre behind Toews.
2. Strome and DeBrincat may be able to re-create OHL chemistry in NHL.
3. Improved depth, getting two skilled forwards (Strome and Perlini) for one (Schmaltz).
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
CHI likes that Strome has emerged as a top faceoff centre and believes his skill/smarts will be able to compensate for lack of pop in his skating stride.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
ARI obviously believes Schmaltz, coming off a 21-goal, 52-point season, gives them more speed at centre and Schmaltz will be able to make a bigger and more immediate impact in the middle than Strome, that it was worth giving up Perlini to get that perceived upgrade at C.

I like this for Arizona, they got the best player currently and likely still the best player 5-10 years down the road.

As of today coyotes got the best player in the deal. Wouldnt be surprised is adding 2 big wingers means hawks will be looking to move Saad at some point this year.

Domi's had a great start to this year but that trade is far from horrid and the season is still young. Galchenyuk has a better track record in my opinion and id still do the trade today.
As for the Chicago trade it's really interesting. I could see it going both ways where the yotes sold high on a bust or or a Chicago fleecing. I'd go with the latter though because I have more trust in Chicago's system and organization developing a player than Arizona's.
