I like all of these moves.

Smith wears a chip on his shoulder at all times and won't be happy with the outcome. Let him prove not only to fans and his team but more so himself that he can play a lights out game after the beat down.

Bennet and Tkachuk are the only 2 to give 100% every night in terms of effort so I am glad he is on that top line. Sean and Johny could use a hell raiser on their line to get them into the game a bit more.

No yelling, stick throwing or bag skating is needed at this point in the season. Nobody needs to tell them how embarassing that was. Work on what didn't work and give an opportunity to move on.

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Bennett

I think he did but played a majority of the time on the right. I believe in an interview with fan960 he mentioned that he was excited to get more opportunities to play center with the Flames. Here's his chance!

If Lindholm can indeed carry his own line, then this would be a very good trade.

I agree with Jaydee. I can tell but think Lindholm mite be a better all around center then Monahan. If I'm trying to balance the lines I think I would try this.

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Bennett
Tkachuk - Monahan - Neal
Ryab- Backlund - Frolik
Dube - Jankowski - Czarnik

Lindholms superior defensive game compared to Monahan should really help with Gaudreaus bad dzone play. Reward Bennett for his hard work.

Tkachuk is an elite playmaker. Let him feed our two best goal scorers in Mony and Neal. Tkachuk also helps the other two in the dzone.

Backlund gets moved down to a 3rd line shut down role as he should be.

Dube and Czarnik push the pace and Janko has to skate to keep up. A fast energy line with skill.

I was thinking about something similar yesterday.

Only a couple of tweaks though:

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Neal : Neal here gives Gaudreau more of a pure finisher on his line. This line gets the easiest matchups.

Tkachuk - Monahan - Czarnik : Tkachuk gets a pure finisher in Monahan, + Tkachuk and Czarnik have shown good chemistry together.

Bennett - Backlund - Frolik: Shutdown line, and Bennett goes back to the wing where he's had his most success in the NHL. These guys get the toughest matchups.

Dube - Jankowski - Ryan: Decent skill and energy for a 4th line. 3 natural centers that can play up in the lineup if the top 9 forwards are struggling.

^ I like those lines.

I think it’s time Gaudreau and Monahan split up for a little.

It seems more often than not throughout the years when the Flames play a backup they make him look like a Vezina candidate.

The ATL reports over the years have taught me that every fanbase feels this way.

Doesn't really matter that we get the backup. We'll shoot from the outside and they'll win 7-2

Every fanbase thinks that backups play inordinately well against them and that they always give up first goals to rookies.

Every fanbase believes that backups play lights out against their team.

Every rookie is going to get their first goal against their team.

Anyone in a scoring slump is going to score against their team.

Anyone close to a milestone will get it against their team.

So...?

Backup playing lights-out: Rittich *but is Smith starting...
Rookie get 1st goal: Dube
Slump-buster: Monahan
Milestone game: Frolik for 200 career assists

Forgive me but I am a little in disbelief that Mike Smith is getting the start tomorrow. The disparity in performance between Rittich and Smith is large. Smith is at the bottom of the league in all relevant goaltending statistics. Minimum 3 games played he is 43rd in GAA, and 44th in Save %, out of 48. That is very very bad.

Like am I missing something here?

In strange ways the ATL reports are a mirror.

No, I think you nailed it. David Rittich should be starting unless they are looking to be a lottery team this year.
