Last night the GAF quotient couldn't have been lower. Six of those goals were literally driven by not giving a ####.

The fact that a team quits after 3-0, one period in, in game 10 of the season tells you everything you need to know about the culture inside the dressing room.

Remember how the team also gave up last year with 20 games left?

No pride.

Didn't the Pens lose 10-1 at the start of seasons to the Hawks a couple seasons ago?

Honestly, I don't think they team quit at all after the first. The Flames second period was quite average (not good enough, but not horribad). They were generating chances and the penguins just happened to score on some weird plays.

The issue right now is defensive consistency. They don't know where they are supposed to be which leads to them being tentative as opposed to aggressive. I am hoping this is just growing pains while learning Peter's system. Too many breakdowns where they give up the slot and in a turn a prime scoring opportunity.

I said this earlier in the thread, but I'll say it again. This was a better effort than the Montreal game. Just a weird night where everything that could go wrong does.

It is October, and usually that's when the games are most erratic.

The Bruins' GAF meter looked pretty similar when they went through Alberta and we know that team isn't bad.

But I will say the teams that experience regular success over 82 games seem to have star players that on top of ability to produce, have that 'hate to lose' intangible that makes them impose their will on games when it matters more than when it doesn't.

I'd like to see Gaudreau and Monahan 'turn the tide' on games that are going sideways as much as stockpiling points on games when the whole team is feeling it. They're damn good players and the last few they look like they're just content to implode with the rest of the team. I don't like that.

Should we be concerned about Huska's D coaching? I mean, why is the D so bad??

Difference is they just won back to back cups. Where the Flames we know this is typical garbage October hockey.

Thats sort of missing the point. The fact that they were a top team is what my point is. This happens to all teams. Good, bad, average.

I definitely felt like they had a very realistic chance to finish the first ten 7-3 with a bit more push.

Opportunity missed. But how many times have I said that about this team recently.

I guess a glass half full way to see it is that by Flames October standards, 5-5 is in the upper echelon.

I was excited at the start of the season, but it is obvious this is the same inconsistent garbage team we have watched for years now.

They may go on a run in Nov/Dec with like 7+ in a row to look like "contenders" but I think we all know that at the end of the season, they will be trying to scrape into the playoffs for the opportunity to get dominated in round 1.

Yay Flames.

Sadly, I think this is pretty much bang on.

Well that's fantastic. Great to see they are showing some emotion.

Do you want them to fight each other or what do you expect?
