Well damn, a high quality match ends with a Coric retirement in the 2nd set (he did get treatment for a blister on his foot in the first set), but he appeared to be moving okay. Oh well.

Apologies to Dominic, that was not my intention. He must be very disappointed as that was a pretty poor performance in front of his hometown crowd.

Speaking of Paris, the draw is out and Shapo takes on Richard Gasquet in the opening round. If Denis wins, he then would face Jack Sock. Milos faces Jo-Willy Tsonga in the first round and if can get by Tsonga, he then faces Fed.

Bianca Andreescu and Katherine Sebov are into the Saguenay semi-finals with a couple of impressive wins. Bianca ousted #159 Richel Hogenkamp in three sets (dropped the opening set before rallying to win the next two) and Katherine blew the doors off #106 ranked and top seed Kateryna Kozlova 6-1 6-1

Updates from the ATP tour - Kevin Anderson defeated Kei Nishikori to take the title in Vienna while Roger Federer was the victor at the Swiss Indoors in Basel over Mariusz Copil who had the week of his life as far as tennis is concerned.

Shapovalov throwing double faults all over the place in the first set. He was up 3-0, but now down 5-4 and a break to Gasquet.

And there goes the first set to Gasquet 6-4. C'mon Shapo, a struggling Jack Sock awaits the victor of this match.

Alright. A break to go up 3-1. Now get those yips out of your serve.
Edit: *sigh*. The second I hit post, he double faults again.

A short stay for Denis in Paris as Gasquet takes the match 6-4 7-6(3).

Looking at the match stats, ten double faults in two sets of tennis is far too many (anything above four is cause for alarm in my opinion). Also concerning is the return of serve, 9/38 first return points (24%) is not too bad, but 9/24 second return points (38%) is pretty low. Top priority in the off-season is to get that wonky serve figured out.

Shapovalov Overall 2018 Record: 35-27, Post French Open: 17-15
The positive being that Denis did manage to solidify himself as a top 30 singles player in 2018. As a fan, you have to hope he can start finding some consistency in his game next season with a ton of experience under his belt now.

Agreed. Overall his first serve is a lowly 56% this season. Not nearly good enough for his ranking let alone someone that should be moving up the ladder. If he can trim that up to even 60%, the double faults will drop considerably and should be his number 1 priority this offseason.

Is there really an incentive for him to play at Roland Garros at this point in his career? Tennis season is too jam packed as it is and more players should follow Roger's lead and bypass the clay court season especially if it is not conducive to their game.
