But the first part of your post can't possibly be true as according to half the board Johnny and Mony suck, you can't win with them, and they should be traded.

I don't want to get lost in an individual numbers game. That's great they are productive, but the biggest stat is earning the W, and with a solid compete every game - for all 3 periods to boot.
We hear all the rantings of how great the individual stats are up north in the tire fire, but it's all meaningless if there are no team results.

No one is saying that and posts like this which misrepresent opinions you don’t share don’t make this board better

If BT could get a 1st for him...and I wonder if he could at this point. I hope he pulls the trigger and gets it done.
Having depth and trading guys while they still have value is key.
I'd love to see the team make the playoffs and have 2 1st rounders in the next draft.

I think asking your best and highest paid players to improve in all areas of the game and be accountable both ways is somewhat reasonable, no?

Absolutely, maybe I should have used green text but I was obviously playing on the discussion that has gone here that you can't win with either of those guys and maybe they should be moved. I think it is overreaction so I made a play on that. I think Mony needs to start scoring and I think he will, I think Johnny had been fine. He is an elite offensive player, anyone expecting a 200 foot game is being unrealistic, some players are pure offense.

So much more than points to a first line. Things are not ok.

I have all the time in the world for players that are getting chances but not scoring. That's part of the game. You need patience.
But when you're giving two guys 20 minutes a night of five on five time (average game that 20/50 for at least 40% of your five on five ice time), and they're a negative in production (only 5 5on5 goals for and 7 against his year) you have a problem.
When you dig deeper and look into them being snake bit you see their expected differential is -2 as well, so they're actually getting outplayed in terms of what they generate and what they give up, so they're not really helping you win at all when their on the powerplay.
Sample size?
Fair so you look at last season and you see expected goals for for both players was slightly positive, but not to the point of contribution (+2 for a season isn't really contributing), however their actual was a positive contribution of +13 or +14
They out performed their underlying numbers.
So that's good if it's sustainable, but it's actually part of the problem if they were fortunate.

Whether green text or not, taking people's opinion and grouping it with the alt opinion of 'yeah, trade the bums!' has been one of the biggest deflators around here lately (the awful play of the team in question being #1).
It's been tough to watch but it's been even tougher to talk about it. Unless you come in here with optimistic rainbows, your opinion is considered hyperbole or sour grapes. I actually got called out for not praising a Smith save enroute to a 9-1 loss...
But the kids production has been impressive to watch. As with the season, the games that have gone well have gone very well. What I loved seeing the most, oddly, was Johnny finally abandoning a failed deke at the blueline before he got creamed. Whether it's Johnny on his own, or Peters adjusting his message, it was good to see. His awesome production only matters if he's playing!
Lost in the mire of this season really has been Bennett. He's not making waves outside this organization yet, but when this team starts clicking he looks like he's ready to go. Definitely the year a lot of us have been excitedly awaiting.
