Some hotshot rookie goalie seems to be stealing starts from Macdonald.
Matthew Welsh was drafted 37th overall this year in the Q draft which is usually the highest goalies will go.
He's only 5'10 but through 4 games he has 2.21 GAA and .928 sv% including a 39 sv so tonight.

We cannot this year. This is MacDonald's 4th QMJHL season and he's only 19. CHL/NHL rule says they must put in 4 seasons and be 20 by December 31st of the same year to be able to go to the AHL/ECHL as assigned by an NHL team.

Looks like Rafikov is going back to HC Ryazen.
Stats for AHL and NCAA updated as both seasons have started now.

Wasn't rafikov saying he doesn't want to come to North America yet because he had a dream of playing for lokomotiv?

I think he mentioned that he felt he owed it to the organization, especially after what they went through.
I guess they felt like they didn't owe him any ice time though which is quite sad.
This is one decision that has stalled his development curve and perhaps any chance of coming to North America.

Thanks and I appreciate your work. One minor thing though as far as I know or he has been moved to the back, Tim Harrison is a RW and not a defenceman.

Rushan Rafikov signed a new contract with Vladivostok Admiral last week who bought his rights from Lokomotiv. Sounds like Lokomotiv didn't put up much of an argument to keep him. Rafikov is getting more playing time with Admiral averaging about 10 minutes a game.
Pavel Karnaukhov suffered an upper body injury and has not played since October 18th.
Morgan Klimchuk was injured on October 25th and has not played since.
Andrew Magniapane appears to be one hell of a 6th round steal. He is currently 4th in OHL scoring.

NCAA and European leagues both on a break so only updates to AHL and CHL.
Our CHL goalies are leaving A LOT to be desired.

So to update Mangiapane at exactly 25 % of the way into this season here is how he projects:
GP 17- 68 l G 12 - 48 l A 13 - 52 l Pts 25 - 100 l Pims 20 - 80 l +/- 3 - 12
Compared to last years stats:
GP 68 l G 43 l A 61 l Pts 104 l Pims 54 l +/- 24
I think he is actually going to eclipse last years totals, he's really starting to light it up, but I think this is definitely a sign that he's turning pro next year and it will be up to him to see if its with Calgary or Stockton. I firmly believe he could shock camp next year and be the surprise that makes the team. As well as the other Barrie Colt we drafted.

I think some fans tend to overrate Mangiapane because he's been able to rack up points in junior. There was a reason he was drafted in the 6th round as an overager after producing 104 points. There is virtually no chance imo that he plays an NHL game next season. I see him in Stockton for the full season and eventually be a Byron type NHLer.

hmm,
Mangiapane (OHL):
17 years old: 51 points in 68 games
18 years old: 104 points in 68 games (doubles production in same amount of GP)
19 years old: 25 points in 17 games (1.47 PPG)
Brendan Gallagher (WHL):
16 years old: 31 points in 52 games
17 year old: 81 points in 72 games
18 years old: 91 points in 66 games
19 years old: 77 points in 54 games (1.43 PPG)
Different leagues completely, similar sized players. Given the state of the NHL today where speed and skill will earn you a spot as long as your willing to battle and go to the rough areas of the ice, i think it's too soon to be writing him off.
Your probably right, but i'd like to have high hopes on the kid as he does well. Mind you, we've all been burnt before with similar prospects, with similar trajectories, but....

There are tonnes of really great small over-agers that have scored at a high clip in juniors, and have done nothing in the NHL.

I agree with your post, I just have a problem with your definition of an over-aged player. An overage player in the CHL is one who is 20 years old. Mangiapane is 19.
