Some of the reactions online make me wonder if people have forgotten how quickly things went from "keep an eye on the news" to "evacuating 80,000 people" in 2013 for Calgary. Overreacting is a good thing for sure.

I think it's also people that don't grasp that weather out in the foothills can have a large impact. They see the rain we got and say yeah it's wet, bit it isn't end of days.

Exactly, seems people forgot it took 2 days after the rain began for Calgary to start evacuating in 2013. The majority of the water in the river comes from the hills, where the most of it has fallen, and it takes time to get here.

"Hopefully this only ends up being another High River issue."

Meaning hopefully limited to just the Highwood River since it looked like a foregone conclusion from the radar (too late for that river, but maybe not for others).

Yes, I'm glad to hear you have a berm in place now so that high water isn't an issue for residents.

Wind warning now, up to 90km/h winds forecast. Could knock down branches or trees with the saturated ground. Keep an eye on those storm drains and keep them cleared.

How bad is High River? My youngest son has a lacrosse game in High River this evening.

This wind is pretty wild. My aspens are bending more than I have ever seen them bend (probably with a bit of extra weight from the rain) and the house is shaking with the gusts.

Same here, I have 3 that are 15-20 ft tall that have been bending sideways... I went out and helped them stay upright for this storm but I don't know if that was smart or not.

I will be shocked if the canvas on my gazebo makes it through this. The aspens are being over so far they are hitting the house.

This happened 5 years ago around this time to my neighbor:

I have a similar tree and I don't think I'll stand anywhere near it for the next little while.

There are some massive winds happening right now. Rain and flood don't worry me but wind is always frightening. I think all my balcony furniture is going to be missing by the time I get home.

I parked for work in an unusual spot today. Heavily treed street. Praying my car is spared from falling branches and/or trees.

We've got trees that size and larger down in our area now (Queensland).

Looking out the office window, the clouds are moving at breakneck speed when they are normally quite static.

Can we get a solid week of sun after the rain this weekend?

That would be just swell.

Doesn't look like it's raining downtown - wind just blowing all of the puddles off the roof across the street
