Welcome back, Flames fans.
For the first time in 567 days, the C of Red will roar inside the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Pre-season or not, it's time to get loud.
Buckle up.
"Coming out for games, that feeling... There's nothing like it," said Rasmus Andersson. "Feeling the home fans behind you, and even against you in other buildings, it's amazing.

I'm guessing Sutter will be throwing out the guys that he sees making the team on opening night? He'll probably be focusing in on the bottom pairing so he can make decisions there as soon as he can. Really important for Kylington to play well.

Anyone know what the list of guys that may be exposed to waivers if they don't make the team is?

Statement game for this group. What happens tonight sets the tone for the season. If I am shutter, I am dressing my top 20 skaters

Sutter already stated that the first 3 games are going to be the opportunity for anyone trying to push themselves onto this team to make their case. The roster will start to round into what we will see on the 16th when they jump into the 5 remaining preseason games in 9 days.
Pelletier and the players I mentioned above will need to bring their A game the next few days.

In terms of roster size and cut-downs, Sutter noted that after the initial three practice days there are three pre-season games in four nights – hosting Edmonton on Sunday, visiting Vancouver in Abbotsford on Monday, and then hosting Seattle on Wednesday – and then starting Friday a run of five games in nine nights. He expects to have the roster down to around 30 players for the final pre-season run.
Speaking about young players that could push for roster spots, Sutter indicated that he thought three centres, three wingers and four defensemen (including the young defensemen on their team) could have a chance. He noted that the right side of their defense is in place, “those four guys.” (He also noted that during the season, he thinks the club will need to use 15 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies.)

A good summary by Ryan Pike of a lot of what Sutter was saying in his pressers.

As for tonight's game, hoping for some really good play from the prospects and some of the new guys that will be dressing. Let's go Flames!

^ Missed those comments from Sutter... maybe he won't in fact be sticking to mostly the guys he sees making the lineup opening night after all

Fantastic; bottom 6 running as the top 6 and then the players who are trying to assert themselves. Already loving how Sutter is going about business.

Agreed. Gives the bottom six plenty of time to establish some chemistry and consistency together.

Haha oh my god of course they are not making the team man. No chance. He’s not going to say they have no chance but the reality is this is Sutter and they have no chance. Watch.
Maybe and I mean MAYBE one will have a short stint and then get sent down within the first month.

Injuries happen, the season is long… getting sent down during games 1 to 20 doesn’t mean there isn’t a chance for one of those players to make a positive impact during the year on the big club. It really is important to be 5 deep at all positions on the forward spots and 8 to 9 deep at D and the Flames are trying to build for that with this roster.

5 NHL locks for the Flames vs 1 for the grease, hopefully the Flames can start strong.
