Agreed. I much, much, prefer the madden model. Sure it's nit realistic but it allows for maximizing scouting points to know more about the prospect, and more experienced GMs can gain more scouting points.
The nhl team seems a bit lost on what level of realism vs fun. Similar to on the other features like team meetings and player morale, running the team finances, pricing, marketing promotions...... Seriously, who the hell even cares about this stuff.

My favourite thing about 2018 was the ability to turn player morale off. Few things bothered me as much as having a killer season with a rookie and then the computer deciding that he's actually a whiny petulant child that the team is annoyed with.

My annoyance was with team meetings. The results were completely arbitrary.

New updates to HUT - https://www.easports.com/nhl/news/2018/hut-deep-dive
This sounds great - NHL 18 HUT was a bit of a mess, and this sounds like it will fix a lot of them.
I love the idea of objectives, milestones, and player trade up sets.
Also, only one contract and healing item each - finally!

I'm really excited for the release of this game, I'm so happy I bought the digital edition which allows me to play three days early, lol. Since I'm done with stupid Destiny I signed up for something called LG which takes EASHL to another level although I'm mostly looking forward to just playing club with friends 🤘

I won't be wooed by fluff this year to just to still have the AI:
- aggressively forecheck but ignore the puck and have it go through his skate
- get open for a pass but then immediately move into the opposition player as the pass is coming
- skate to the net for a tap in and then turn and face the wrong way
- abandon loose pucks
- skate into me while I'm on the rush going into the zone
- go offside for no reason
- go behind the net when the other D already went behind the net
- trip over your own goalie on a backcheck (I appreciate the backcheck this time)

Looks like Walmart charged me the $52 for the game, seems a little early when it doesn't ship for 2 weeks. Fingers crossed for getting it early.

I don't think Walmart even ships until release day for the most part, so if you get it early, then that would be doubly amazing.
I haven't bought an NHL game since 15, so getting this year's. Especially since I've enjoyed the FUT mode in FIFA (though, lol @ spending real money). I'm hoping it's better for me in NHL19 since (a) I know the system better now and (b) I know hockey better than soccer.

Agreed, I just found it odd they would charge it now when they usualy charge just before shipping.

Looks like it was just a pre authorization for me. They charged me for it then the charges dropped from my statement after a few days

I like how this year your preseason roster automatically changes every game to mix rookies with regulars. Changing it after every game and deciding who to call up and send down was kind of a pain in the ass.

Top 10 face-off guy in the league (Derek Ryan) gets a face-off rating of 70 in NHL 19. Good ol Vancouver based EA and their bias/lack of knowledge.

Is anyone else seeing an insane amount of tripping penalties? About 95% of the penalties both me and the cpu get are tripping calls.

Yes, the mechanics have completely changed for poke checking. It's almost too much, but I'm a fan of how difficult pokechecking has become. Almost anything poked from behind or the side is an automatic penalty, and from the front it's anyone's guess on whether or not you're called.
Last year you could easily spam the pokecheck button to cover up any defensive lapses - I'm really glad that you can't this year. It's more about playing the body and stick lifts.
