During my brief stay in the Negev Desert in Israel, I was warned to always shake out my shoes before I put them on in case there was a scorpion in them. Which is when I knew it would be a brief stay.

I remember my first morning at my buddies house in South Africa.

My wife got out of bed and then jumped right back in.

I looked down at the floor and there was a scorpion right by the bed.

I was thinking about next steps when my buddy came running in holding a flip flop asking what was up.

We told him and calmly walked around and slapped the flip flop on it killing it.

"Coffee is made" as he walked.

Great start to a great trip.

Has anyone ever seen the species that is native to southern Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC?

When I was a kid, a friend and I were camping on an island on Lake of the Woods in Northwestern Ontario and I swear we saw some, however it is supposed to be outside of their range. I really want to go back there one day to look and see if I can find them again.

What a genius idea for mother nature to make a miniature lobster with the addition of a stinger on its tail. Small enough that you may not notice it until you've been stung.

I like snakes and have held many, including pythons. I’d have one as as a pet if it didn’t freak my wife out. I’ve held tarantulas. These things freak me out.

I have no love for scorpions, but I find them less off putting than snakes or spiders. Snakes and spiders give me the heebee jeebies.

In fairness...he can be pretty insistent when he wants people's attention...constantly angrily demanding people to 'get over here!'
