Default Imperial Oil building office in Quarry Park

Can anyone tell from the renderings where the complex will be?

The only places that I think have room are either the southern or northern edges along 24th st.

All those people living in the NW who work for Imperial Oil are going to have to make some decisions in the next year or so. That would be a crappy commute if you live in Tuscany.

The ring road will be complete by then but still.

Yuck. Terrible trend, I hope it doesn't catch on. Downtown is a great place to spend your working days (i.e. half your waking life).

I'm assuming most of their employees would prefer to drive to work which is a ridonkulous notion with parking DT.

Wow, another big hit against engineers (really any O&G professional) living in the north of the city. Most of the big EPC companies long ago moved out of the core and are scattered around the south end of the city. Now a major E&P?

I agree that this is going to lead to horrid commutes (with no real transit option) for folks in the NW or central North. I see more and more colleagues taking a long look at where the employment options are if they are thinking of a new place.

It'll be interesting to see how that affects their workforce. I bet there'll be significant turnover, as those who live downtown/NW/west side look for work at other companies. (Getting to QP from my house in the NW during rush hour would be suicide inducing)

On the other hand, if you were an energy industry professional at another company who lived in Riverbend or Douglasdale, you'd be crazy not to look at switching.

I think this will probably cause a lot of turnover in their workforce, and also turnover in the current occupants of buildings downtown, as they vacate a huge amount of space.

Commuting to Quary Park really isn't that much worse than downtown from the NW. Sure the distance is longer, but after you pass Bow Trail on Crowchild the traffic is pretty much non-resistant. Getting home would be much worse though.

Plus you have free parking.

Google says 34 minutes from my house to the Jacobs office in Quarry Park, and my current commute by train to downtown is 35 minutes. (Although I dont' work for Imperial, same area). If you believe that estimate, then someone from the NW would be no worse off. But that estimate isn't factual, especially for the way home as you mention. Northbound crowchild from the river to about 24th ave is a parking lot during rush hour.

I was thinking more the return trip, from what I hear if you aren't past Bow Tr on Crowchild northbound before 3:45 or 4:00, it adds a half hour or more. Yikes. I sold my house in Tuscany years ago because the commute was driving me up the wall.

I wonder if they will try some of the measures I have seen at companies in Houston that have remote campuses far from the core. Van pooling for example.

Or who knows, maybe they have lots of opportunities to telecommute if the weather is crappy.
