I normally complain about the long drawn out trippy nonsensical visual sequences but that "origin" story of sorts for Bob was awesome.
I also won't lie, I was super excited to see the nine inch nails performance. Awesome they did it mid episode as opposed to as a closer like most of the other bands.
So... I expected some degree of experimentation but that was basically Lynch doing Eraserhead in Twin Peaks.
I'm wondering if we'll return to that story from the past at all or if that's where they're leaving it. I'd like to know the significance of the scene with the bug at the end, but I'm also prepared to never find out.
Oh boy... I'm for sure going to have to watch this again when it's all over.
So I didn't understand quite a bit of what was happening and I'm bad at keeping track of the mythology of Bob and the lodges and the convenience store etc.
But the basic gist I got was Bob was born into our world when the nuke went off. The giant saw this and transported his orb, with the pic of Laura in it, to our world in response, although I'm not 100% sure on the significance of that part.
The bug thing was bob crawling into his first host.
There's a whole bunch more theories and clues and callbacks to the show, movie, books etc but I think that's the basics.
It's all pretty metaphorical but the response of the giant, at the sight of seeing the nuke and Bob released into the world was to counteract this effect somehow. The idea being that Laura would be out to lure and trap Bob, so they could take him out of the real world and back into the Black Lodge.
Not sure if the bug is Bob necessarily. One of the ideas is that the girl is Laura's mom Sarah, who had always been one of the gifted 'see-ers'. I'm kind of wondering where Mike fits into this, as he was another see-er. Perhaps he was the 'gotta light' dude? In season 2, one of Mike's clues was he used to live above a convenience store with Bob. That said.. no freaking clue!

Twin Peaks, where the stunning visuals will get you over the utterly baffling parts. Lynch has a lot of balls in the air now and I'm not sure how he's going to tie everything together, half expecting this to a giant troll job that doesn't go anywhere (which feels oddly appropriate).
This show is impossible to explain to people: "so the bob bug hatches out of the interdimensional space egg, then the homeless ghost takes over the radio station, puts everyone to sleep so the bob bug can crawl into the little girls mouth as she sleeps."

I think you are correct on the Bob being the bug part.
I saw a screen cap from when Bob's orb was traveling into our world and you can see the egg in the background.
