Anybody else at the May 27, 1995 Max Bell Arena show? No opening band just 2 plus hours of Beastie Boys What a show, what a band, hard to believe that Max Bell was all they could sell out at the time as they were just comming off of their peak......Ill communication era...... Check your head was one of the first CDs that I would cruise around to and feel tougher than I really was. Such energy to their music and concerts. Hard to believe that was 17 years ago.

I listened to them driving from Seattle to Vancouver tonight... MCA had a few good raps about food

I'd like a lettuce, tomato and Munster on rye
All this cheese is gonna make me cry
Gorgonzola, Provolone
Don't even get me started on this microphone
(from Shazam)

I too was at that show. The night before the trio were at Deluxe Lounge (above the Republik, remember that ?) just hanging out. A female friend of mine at the time ended up driving them back to their hotel that night. They were unbelievably down to earth and a ton of fun to hang out with, pretty cool experience.

My favourite, from Sure Shot

I want to say a little something that's long overdue
The disrespect to women has got to be through
To all the mothers and the sisters and the wives and friends
I want to offer my love and respect to the end

That lyric is what opened me up to hiphop. When I was younger I was all about Nirvana and such, thought rap was full of vanity and sexism and gangsters talking about their money. Hearing that song in '94, I realized there was a whole other world of good hiphop out there. It sounds like a stretch to say it "changed my life".... but in a way it did.

I've never really batted an eye at a celebrity death... but this is legitimately a really sad time. We lost much more than a musician, Adam Yauch was a stellar human being.

I'm not a Coldplay fan, but here's their tribute from their show last night.

and of course

I logged on to post the Coldplay tribute.

Brought a tear to my eye. Sent it to my wife and she started balling.

Such an impact... How much so is just starting to set in.

RIP MCA..... F u cancer!

Can't think of many groups that would let rescue dogs doing tricks open a concert for them:

They talk about it after the song.

Back in the day, the parties usually started with this:

I might have chug a beer to this tonight and kick the hacky sack around.

==================================

I don't see things quite the same as I used to
As I live my life I've got just me to be true to
And when I find that I don't know about
Just what to do
I turn and look within to see what I should do
Now I'm not sure what it takes to be hip
A lot of people making music that to be ain't ####
So I ask creation
For rhymes for this jam
Gimme lickle solo and I'll take the mic stand

Love vibe

As the earth spins into brand new day
I see the light on the horizons's not fading away
Gonna shine from within like a bright white sun
No need to hide and no place to run
Got the vibrations of the music
Bringing light to your mind
So you can move and groove
And feel the beat of the time
Sense the power in the air as it starts to move
You get a real good feeling that you just can't lose

Contemplation time, intuition time
Evolution time, resolution time

Free your mind it's time for good times
And let yourself move it's a time to shine
Spread your wings in the sky, feelin' good inside
Breaking fool with no need to hide
I got the music cuttin' throught me
Takin' control of my soul
I can't hold back I've got to let go

Stand together people come together now
It's about time we've got to get together y'all
