MCA passes away at age 47
Beastie Boys MC Adam Yauch, aka MCA, has passed away due to cancer, TMZ reports. He was 47 years old.
The Beastie Boys are one of the most important and influential hip-hop groups of all time. They were instrumental in making hip-hop a global, mainstream force. Formed in 1981 as a hardcore band, they combined punk and rap into a singular sound that grew increasingly broad over the years, encompassing a vast array of genres. Yauch, Michael Diamond (Mike D), and Adam Horowitz (Ad-Rock) released several classic albums, including their debut album Licensed to Ill in 1986, 1989's Paul's Boutique, and 1994's Ill Communication.

Well this is still really tragic even though I knew with his health problems he probably wasn't going to be around much longer. A sad day for all hip-hop fans. RIP MCA.

Wow...brutal. Way too young. RIP. License to Ill was one of the first albums I owned.

Not that it was your intent, but that is a very myopic view of the impact The Beastie Boys have had in music.
Sad news. They were innovators, not copy cats.

I chose hip-hop because that is where their influence is greatest felt (punk would actually probably be second). Paul's Boutique is an essential piece of hip-hop that set the standard for sampling.

I know. I just think the loss transcends the hip-hop genre.
Sabotage was HUGE, for example.

Indeed, Sabotage, the music video in particular, were quite transcendent.

I never got the appeal of the Beastie Boys, but I don't discredit their impact on the music world. RIP.

Damn... loved the Beasties growing up.
Will always remember looking forward to watching the Sabotage video on MuchMusic after school.
One of the few bands which were still on my list of bands to see live. Doesn't look like that will happen now unless its via hologram.
RIP MCA.

At least he was around to see his entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If he had to go, a fitting for a member of a very influential group if ever there was one.

I have no idea either that Yach was in this sort of condition. Pretty shocking, and sad indeed.
RIP to the man they call Adam Yach, but is known as MCA.
