Curious. Not sure I like the move.

I guess Valimaki is not ready yet. A few more games or maybe the rest of the season in the AHL would probably help him.

I doubt we see Valimaki for a few weeks. He has missed a lot of games and needs to get back to speed.

Any news on Stone?

BT was on with the morning guys.

Said that Stone is probably in the best shape of his life as he has been working out and skating by himself for well over a month.

But....blood clots have to be dissolved before any contact can be allowed and they take whatever time they take. That being said, he was hopeful that Stone would get medical clearance in the next couple days to re-join the team and start practicing.

Sounds like he could be close but it all hinges on whether the threat is completely gone or not.

Makes sense to me. Magpie can move up and down the lineup as needed. I think they also want to leave Lazar in the A so he gets big minutes which will help inflate his value come trade deadline time.

Hopefully he starts to get on the board offensively this time. I thought we might see Lazar or a second round of Quine coming out of the break.

Yeah...this does not bode well for Lazars future as a Flame.

Has to be tantalizing for the Flames to see how well he does when he's in the A, that they will exhaust all avenues to get him rolling like that at the NHL level.

But man, the puck looked like a curling rock coming off his stick those last few games. Maybe this last break did him some good.

I hope Mangiapane scores a goal on this call-up. He's been working hard and he deserves his first goal.

call me crazy but I'd like to see him get a few shifts with Backs and Chucky to see if his offensive touch carries over to the NHL...

although I'm not sure his style of game fits that line, just curious to see what he could do.

I think this call up makes sense. I haven't watched Lazar but his numbers aren't all that impressive for someone who has ~250 NHL games of experience.

I think Lazar's contract is the biggest stumbling block, not their view or his pecking order.

Once the trade deadline is passed and they expand the rosters I think he'll be up. Where his career goes? Nobody knows, but you can't put too much stock in a 24 year old's AHL numbers.

No question is contract related. Imo.
Lazar will be called up after the deadline. This is certain. Again, imo only.

It could also be that waiver implications are limiting callup potential for Quine and Lazar.
Lazar would need waiver to go down, and I am pretty sure Quine would need waivers also (if not immediately, after a small number of games/days on roster).
Before the trade deadline, roster space is limited, and being able to callup/demote easily is a great thing to have, to respond to short term injuries without having to resort to IR.
Add to that how Mangiapane has better AHL stats than Lazar, and Quine (due to his big gaffe) may appear a more risk/reward proposition, the steady reliable play of Mangiapane on the 4th line may be the preferred option.

Doesn't mean that Lazar and/or Quine do not come up later.

Also, this position (4th line wing) may be one that is upgraded via a rental, either directly (adding a vet for the playoff run) or by adding a 2/3 line guy who bumps Frolik/Bennett/Jankowski, etc. to this spot. If Treliving is looking at that, it makes sense to give the guy who has been the most reliable in that role (Mangiapane) one more run before committing assets to upgrading the roster
May be the same thinking on D - Prout is designated sitter, Valimaki gets longer AHL run to get back to speed, Kylington gets extended run under microscope and then depending on the play of Kylington, Valimaki (when recalled) and Stone (if/when fit) they can decide if a rental is needed.

Was my individual post really worth a response?

Either way, yes, it is worth more than a passing thought. Is that a problem?

You think 250K is the stumbling block?

That's the difference in the two.

I can see where the waiver status may come into play, but that sum of money?

Or i am misunderstanding what you mean by contract.
