yes he won his Norris there, but his 90-91 season was actually his best. more games, points, playoff games, allstar team appearances (2 1: 3 2nd vers 2 1st), his only cup and then one major award in each place

I think it boils down to him establishing himself in St. Louis post playing, and the fact that (erroneously) he was only viewed as 'the guy with the slapshot) until 1989
He set his hardest recorded shot in a Blues jersey too. Triple digits which weren’t seen often. Which made him a household name to casual fans league wide.

The sad reality is that he seems to self-identify himself more as a Blue than a Flame.
So I think that feeds it as well.

definitely true and there are lots of reasons why this happens (its sort of akin to the baseball 'which hat do you go in with' stuff..)

but the additional truth (as I recall it ) is that even prior to all that- Blue MacInnis was viewed as this sublime 'ultimate' two way defenceman that had sort of just transformed there, whereas Flame MacInnis was always kind of viewed like a slightly more nuanced Andy Delmore (and yes that's hyperbole for effect)
