Calgary Flames All Time Roster - #3 Defenseman
So some details ...
1. Calgary players only
2. I'll look at games played, production and PPG to list options.
3. My cut off won't effect options as I'll go deeper than required
4. I'll label them by rank (3rd line LW) but don't select the player that matches that role the best, pick the best player.
Day to Day
We elect a position, say 2nd line RW, remove that name and do the 3rd line RW the next day.
I'll post a summary as we go along.
Calgary Flames All Time Roster
Gary Roberts - Joe Nieuwendyk - Jarome Iginla
Johnny Gaudreau - Doug Gilmour - Theo Fleury
Matthew Tkachuk - Sean Monahan - Lanny McDonald
Alex Tanguay - Joel Otto - Joe Mullen
Hakan Loob - Kent Nilsson
Al MacInnis - Mark Giordano
D3 - D4
D5 - D6
D7
Miikka Kiprusoff
Mike Vernon

I just saw Regehr play the other day for Team Canada in the 2004 World Cup. He was good, and crushed a Finnish player in the corner.

Regehr gets a vote from me. I was toying between Suter and Regehr, but decided to go ahead and vote for someone I have actually seen play.
On a related note, is it possible to watch old hockey games, similar to what they had with the NHL Vault a few years ago? I'd love to see playoff series from yesteryears and not just single games from those playoffs here and there.

Voted for Suter who is underrated in my opinion.
Got looking at Reinhart, forgot he was traded along with Bozek to Van for a 3rd round pick. They then drafted Veli-Pekka Kautonen, looks like he was a decent defenceman but never came over the North America. Got looking at that draft, 3 picks later the next defenceman taken was by Detroit, Lidstrom, ouch.

I voted Suter here- I don't think it matters THAT much as pretty sure these two are the (deserved) 2nd pair
I realize if the question is 'which guy would I rather have a personalized jersey of' or something its probably Regehr. He was a great player of his type in Calgary for a long while esp 04-06 era
Suter I think was likely just 'better' and definitely viewed as such , I think that's fair to say. 6 seasons with all star or Norris votes, compared to 4 for Regehr (and definitely finished higher in the voting than 28) . now sure you can argue there is a bias towards D that provide offence, but I don't think that's necessarily a wrong bias
anyways we can agree the tunnel of death is a thing of beauty and I look forward to voting for RR next time if necessary

Went Regher. Suter was great, but was injured at the time we needed him most so wasnt a huge factor in playoffs that I can recall.
Regher was a beast and a much stronger member of the community.

Gotta go with the Gate Keeper of the Tunnel of Death.
Regardless of who wins #3 between Regher an Suter that would be one hell of a second defensive pairing

Regehr Is very undervalued, he’s the forgotten star of the kipper/Iggy/Reg trio that saved this franchise

Looks like #5, 6, and 7 will be interesting.
I'd lean to Reinhart and Brodie, but then it's a bit of a crapshoot for the last slot

Suter all the way here. Always have thought his entire career was super underrated. Agree with previous post that regardless the outcome, Reggie and Suter as a 2nd pairing would be amazing. Suter has some defensive chops as well--people seem to think he was a poor mans Phil Housley.

This round to Suter.
I feel like Housley needs to be in this mix somehow, but I want to throw a vote to Jaybo too. Decisions decisions.

Suter deserves top 3. He's getting it.
Regehr deserves to be top 6. He'll be top 4 and I'm somewhat surprised at that. I think there is a couple better than him. Can't yet tell how the bottom pairing will go in this poll.

Jaybo was hated on around here and a bit too unfairly. I was one of them who hated him. I didn't like him and wanted him gone but in retrospect, I thought he should have been a 50+ point defenseman each year and ignored everything else that he did... except for this one bone headed play that was kinda funny. It was either against the Wild or Blue Jackets and he was chasing down the puck for an icing call but didn't know they waived it off. He just slapped it against the boards and stopped playing. The puck bounced past him to the opposition who was ready for it, and the puck wound up in the net.

I don't think he's undervalued as he will get picked next. Suter is simply a more accomplished NHL defenseman.

Understandably, many are unable to see past offensive numbers and not able to value the contribution players bring to a team outside of that. Nothing wrong with it, just the way things are and why on paper teams read better

Was struggling with voting for Regehr or Suter. Went with Suter for the extra offence, but definitely Regehr is the all-time defensive D-man.

Tough choice between Regehr and Suter. No wrong answer. Went Suter for the offense.
After that I am pumping votes for Phaneuf from 5-7. The excitement he brought during the time before he got injured was awesome. Might not be right to have him higher than others on the cup winning team but he’s certainly ahead of Brodie and Jbo and leads the remaining modern flames.

Suter on this round for me.
That Robyn Regehr trade to Buffalo was ridiculously bad, my goodness. Regehr - Brodie could have been such a brilliant pairing.
After Regehr gets voted in, I’m hoping Brodie lands a spot.

Tough choice, but obvious pairing.
I went to Regehr. I think he played on poorer teams and was more important to the teams he was on. Suter was awesome but had a much strong cast around him and was never the #1 D-Man on the team.
