Phaneuf gets a lot of flack for his career after the flames but he had his beast mode while he was here

MacInnis is one of the greatest d-men of all time and the clear number one here.

With a star studded forward group and goalie, it was MacInnis that won the Conn Smythe.

I think his number should be beside Iggys in the rafters.

Regehr > Brodie

The only reason you would think otherwise is if you are young and never watched him play. I miss him demolishing Hemsky every BofA.

I think spot number 3 on this list is interesting between Regehr and Suter. I’m not sure which way I go with that one.

Brodie has twice the points per game of Regehr and also put up an epic playoff performance as the number 1 D in 2015.

I’ll give the edge to Regehr for his longevity and strong defence, proven with the eye test and his two Team Canada selections, but it’s closer than you think.

Easily Suter. Regehr belongs on this team but only being a one dimensional defensive player should have him on the bottom pairing.

Dion's success was a combo of playing with Hamrlik, who handled alot of the defensive zone coverage, and the fact that he was heavily sheltered by his coaches.

Al MacInnis by a country mile, he was one of the best ever.

Regehr would actually play on the #1 pairing playing the other team’s best players and logging huge minutes.

Yup. Averaged ~ 21.5 minutes with the Flames. Consistently.

Led the team in TOI during the season in 03/04. 26:27 in 2004 playoffs.

I was born in 88 so didn't get the chance to watch MacInnis with the Flames.

Obviously I've always been aware he won the Conn Smythe but I just looked it up and realized from Game 6 vs Vancouver in Round 1 to the last game vs Montreal, MacInnis had a 17 game playoff point streak that Cup run. 26 points in those 17 games as a defenceman.

He also started the 1990 playoffs with 2 more games in a row with points finishing with a 19 game playoff point streak.

MacInnis wasn't just the points and the TOI. He was the engine that drove that team. He was so calm on the breakouts, he was a general in the offensive zone. By 1989, he was as good as anyone in his own zone. When he was traded to the Blues, I knew the Flames' chances of winning a Cup were pretty much done. Losing Loob, Gilmour and Mullen among others hurt but nothing was so definitive of the end of that era of Flames hockey as the trading of MacInnis.

At least that's the way I saw it.

He was absolutely robbed of that Norris in 1991. But those writers out east loved them some Raymond Bourque.
