I agree. Golden added quite a bit but I'd guess only the most dedicated Persona fans played through both games.
Golden benefited quite a bit in the sense that the original game was released at the tail end of the PS2's lifecycle, so many people missed it. Persona 5 feels like it wasn't even released that long ago, and Royal is for the same console.
I'll probably pass on it until I see a sale, but my backlog is too big to want to replay a game I only recently completed.

True, though to different degrees, but in this case, they're basically saying these people are bad people. "Gamer" has about the cachet of "Men's Rights Activist" as a pastime. If I tell someone I really like board gaming as a hobby, they're not inclined to assume I'm a sexist racist alt-right supporter. Loser, sure.

"anti-gamergate" isn't a schtick. It's the default place any mentally sound individual should reside.

I got stuck on the last boss in Persona 5 because I didn't really figure out the gameplay mechanics/strategy until midway through the game so my dudes were too weak to beat him. I've been debating going back through and playing it all again but the thought of doing that god awful mouse puzzle again is giving me second thoughts.

I tell people I'm into video games all the time and I don't think I've ever once been accused of being a Gamergater. I doubt most people who don't use Twitter are even aware of that controversy. I get way more stick for telling people I like wrestling than I do video games.

I've been a gamer since the 90s and have no idea what a gamergater is

When we have articles defending microtransactions, calling Japanese video game developers ableist when a journalist mishears a lyrics, and simply misrepresenting the concerns of their audience in a matter of days, things are never black and white.

Do yourself a favour and remain as ignorant as possible on the subject. It's one of the stupidest arguments I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing.

Anyone going to give Imperator: Rome a shot? Looks interesting but Paradox games are incredibly daunting. I have Crusader Kings II and Stellaris sitting on my PC, mostly collecting virtual dust because I can't really figure out how to play them.

Ironic comment since gamergate itself is very black and white. Particularly in the place women should occupy.
I'm not surprised you actually think it's about "ethics in journalism" though.

Just finished downloading it, but I generally enjoy Paradox games. Crusader Kings and Victoria I found daunting but Stellaris, Hearts of Iron and Europa Universalis I loved.

I'll do my best to ignore your un-antagonized potshot. And people are saying I'm the one taking this too seriously.
"Gamegate" is not a movement I ascribe to. However, as I mention the Kotaku Persona article from the weekend, or the articles defending Mortal Combat's microtransactions, yes, gaming journalism is a joke and completely falls flat when educating or representing its audience. That's why I say this isn't black and white.
If that means I fall into your classification of misogyny and racism, I can only recommend a bit of nuance on your own end.

If it's as dumb as the last two pages of this thread I'll gladly take your advice and stay out of it

I'll have to give Stellaris another shot. I thought it was a really cool concept at first but then kind of petered out and got repetitive mid-game. I haven't tried Europa or Hearts of Iron yet, mostly because Paradox intimidates me haha.

Dumber. We haven't even gotten into swatting, death threats and pulling fire alarms as valid tactics of silencing the wrong - usually female - voices part yet.

Hearts of Iron is probably my favourite of all of them, it's also the easiest to get into. Stellaris would be second, I agree that the mid game gets repetitive but there was a large update a while ago that completely changed the game that helped with that a bit.
Give Hearts of Iron a try. I'm actually just now doing another play through as Germany but this time I had the Democrats overthrow Hitler, form a central european alliance with the Czechs, Belgium, Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungarians, Romanians and Polish, and just defeated the Communists and put a democratic Government in charge of Russia. Then last night the Allies finished off Italy then declared war on me, so I'm in for a scramble to move my forces West before they attack. Going to be an interesting night

Is this a recent thing? I'll admit I don't read too much news from gaming sites but I've only seen them defended when they don't affect gameplay (ie. cosmetic only).

Love it so far. It's not as in depth as EU4 or CK2, but more so than Stellaris. I find it's a good balance
