Question..... are we using reputable sites for positions/changes or is there a league list?

Thanks

We will follow the same process as we have in the past, where GMs can send in position changes as part of the end of off-season roster review. We will use reputable sites for this.

But not yet please.

I actually think it is a fun exercise to do and rewards GMs who are good with putting in a bit of effort with roster/position flexibility.

I think it would actually promote trading though. There are so many instances where it’s clear the guy has never played that position but he’s on 1 of the 10 reputable websites. Capfriendly is pretty locked in that if they have played that position, they have that position associated with them

Capfriendly has Elias Lindholm as only playing C instead of C/RW which sucks for my PP

I agree that it would promote trading, which would be awesome, and it would increase and decrease value perceptions on the entire forward group as well, which could also be fun.

But if we exclusively use CapFriendly, I would never be able to use TJ Oshie to cover for injuries at centre like Hockey Reference suggests he plays

But he doesn’t play RW and Oshie doesn’t play C. It should be the most up to date positional data.

Just using one site hampers a few trades ive already made. Something to possibly look at down the road but i wouldnt say for this season.

I had an issue last year where Bonino was listed as C only on capfriendly, and played more than half the year on LW, in real life. Went to yahoo sports for the addition. I think that identifying, maybe three sites, would be fine for our purposes.

capfriendly, yahoo and eliteprospects probably covers 95% of issues, unless someone has a better three.

I would argue that ideally the ratings update frequency should match the positions update but I am just nerding out here. I know sometimes people have high FO sitting on the wings because they can't play C and vise versa

i don't think we should change mid-stream. I think we should do it the same way we have in the past. People have made trades already with that in mind.

This has been the approved list:
Player profiles from acceptable sites are
- NHL.com
- TSN
- The Hockey News
- Sportsnet
- ESPN
- hockeydb
- Capfriendly
- Rotoworld
- Hockeyreference

Can I formally propose going with 1 (cap friendly) for next season?

Voted multiple sites, but the last couple of years have primarily used Capfriendly as it seems most up to date on positions skaters actually play and not a historical listing from junior.

I agree that Capfriendly is the best for positions. I just like the flexibility of having a few more options.

The one question I want to clarify, is do player's positions get reset every year? Ie) do they only play what we submit?

Or, if they are registered to play say LW in the past but now are strictly C, do they only play C?

I seem to recall that any position they played in the past gets carried forward regardless.

Capfriendly is what I use and it seems accurate. Clear and direct rule for everyone. I love the idea instead of the more vague option. I guess, there could be a better option that arises in the future but for now it is a good option imo
