I don't think having Lucic is going to give anyone anymore will to score.

Lucic literally does nothing anyways no fights has he helped create open ice for anyone?

Phillips has a few hits like the following in the AHL. There's no question that he gets pushed off the puck relatively easily, but you have to admire the fact that he regularly goes to high traffic areas and even occasionally tries to make the big hit

Rooney shouldn’t be on the team. Lucic should be subbing for injuries. That’s it.
Kevin Rooney would be a 0.3 PPG player in the AHL. Unfortunately we will never see if that is correct.

And here's the other thing. Who's to say that Phillips wouldn't bring intangibles to the Flames too? His work ethic and foot speed are things that the team would notice and, who knows, maybe it would light a fire under these players to move their feet a little bit faster than before. So really the intangibles argument goes both ways.

The big problem is that none of the forwards have been elite, and every team needs at least a couple of elite players. Kadri has been good, but cooled off. Huberdeau hasn't even played like a 1st liner, nevermind being close to elite. The fortunes of the team rests on the top guys and Phillips isn't going to change anything unless the top players start producing like they should. It's not Lucic, Lewis, or Rooney that are the issue and substituting Phillips for any one of them won't do anything.

Having said that, I would give Phillips a shot at some point. If the team is going to keep being lackluster, then you might as well try whatever.

as far as I can tell he's providing everything mangiapane did for us last year but isn't this year

with additional skill to spare

if we get worked tonight that transaction damn well better happen in the following 12-24 hours

but really its the logical next step whether we win or lose

This is kinda getting silly at this point. Scorp must be losing his mind. I was far from a Phillips advocate but Scorp- you got a lot invested in this man…hope your boy gets called up soon. This is just ridiculous.

It’s just frustrating because this team has needed a top 9, RH, RW shot for three seasons.

But they refuse to give him a look because they want to dress a low skill veteran 4th line due to “intangibles” (even though we have a veteran team regardless) and because he’s 5’7”.

You hope you make good calls on the tweeners as it's embarrassing when you mess up and a Martin St. Louis emerges.

But you can't just always call up the top three scorers on your AHL team and not have NHL veteran depth around because you're living in fear.
Over the years what I'm willing to accept as a flames fan is "just don't embarass me". The Peters incident was handled professionally...if it wasn't I wouldn't be a fan anymore. So that's what I reflect on the last 30yrs the most.

On Phillips it made me wonder if the Flames led the league in 5'7" players that scored 1000pts+...maybe it's our ironic cross to bear. Let's lean into it.

To me always needing to have NHL veteran depth on your 4th line is a lot more “living in fear” than playing young players on your roster.

Those veterans are the low risk, no upside “safe” choice (if you consider getting caved in every night safe) . Young players are the high risk, potential high reward that is in no way “living in fear”

And it’s not just “top 3 AHL scorers” it’s two guys that have lit up the AHL the last two years in Pelletier and Phillips. Huge difference

Guarantee he knows all about what Darryl said at the presser yesterday ... he's been unbelievable in the two games since.

Honestly I still can’t believe Sutter was such an ass about that question yesterday.

He’s a great coach, and a legend but that’s the first time since he’s come back where I kind of wanted him gone. No need to be a dick because people want to see a kid lighting up the farm to get a look, and kind of disparage the kid as you do it.

All he had to say way “He’s on a bit of roll down there and if we have an injury he’s a guy we’d look at”

That’s it. Honestly that answer left a sour taste about him as coach for me. Don’t need to talk down about our farm team players. Felt like he’s losing it a but this year with some of these comments and a bit too grumpy.

Better off paying no attention at all to what he says to the media. I stopped listening his first time around.
