I just got back from an extended long weekend in Yukon and basically the fish are perfect for a guy like me! I don't think that they get fished much at all, and they're dumb. It's amazing. I was almost bored of catching fish one day...just hit after hit. Even if you pulled the fly out so they couldn't take it they would jump and take it in mid-air. Pretty amazing. Really to do it properly you need a boat as the rivers and lakes are enormous. Overall it's breathtaking scenery, and just incredibly beautiful.
It's not cheap... You need a regular BC license - I think about $35 guessing don't remember for sure - then the Skeena is "classified waters" so that's another $25 a day then you have to pay a salmon tag which I believe is like another $25... Not to long ago it was just an out of province licence... It's expensive as hell but I understand and get why...

My friends and I have been having a lot of fun playing around with underwater cameras, go pros and photo editing App's and things to get some cool shots of fish and scenery etc. and just some random fish pics.

Great pics, really love the scenery in some of those. Looks like you've had some amazing fishing this summer. My summer has been crap, few decent walleye but no trout and nothing to write home about for pike. But fall is fast approaching and that is my favourite time of the year to be outside.

another legendary day in ES1 yesterday with angelamc. Slava's priorities are all wrong and he decided to work instead. I lost count of how many cutties I caught on a dry fly.

I call this one "Big Trout in a Little Trib"

My new life goals:

1. Learn to fly fish.

2. Somehow convince troutman and angelamc to take me fishing.

Those pictures are incredible.

An update to my fishing adventures.

I've gone out several times with my boys to a number of lakes around where we RV, but our luck has been poor at best.

We've been to Rosen, Tie, Surveyors, North Star, Norbury and struck out at all of them. I think it must be our(my) general lack of any knowledge of those lakes, so we're literally trying anything/everything we have in the tackle box and picking our spots to fish by how easy they are to walk to.

Anyone have any good tips for helping me lift the spirits of some young enthusiastic fishermen?

Thanks

Kill two birds with one stone and learn by fishing for a day! Its not super difficult and I'm sure that you could come along.

Of course, now I am too old to be much of a fisherman, and now of course I usually fish the big waters alone, although some friends think I shouldn’t. Like many fly fishermen in western Montana where the summer days are almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon, all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the hope that a fish will rise.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

I am haunted by waters.

Took the kids fishing this week while on vacation for the first time ever. I haven't been since I was in junior high. We didn't get a bite but the kids had a blast.

Can anyone recommend some place near Calgary I could take a 7 and a 4 year old to throw a line in the water and possibly catch something? Their attention spans are still pretty short, so driving/hiking a long ways for an hour tops of angling isn't probably a good idea at this stage. Thanks.

I think at one point the regs had an advisory not to eat more than one trout per week from the Bow River, but I don't see that now.

Browns are some of the best eating (and best battles) out there. I like crispy trout skin more than crispy chicken skin.

Spruce Meadows pond. They stock it with trout, however it's catch and release only and no barbed hooks. However it's right in city limits, no license required because it's private land and no hiking. If you're looking for a quiet day by some water with a chance of a bite it's not a bad bet.

Little bow is pretty good too, very easy to catch walleye. Just throw a weight and a minnow about 18" up, you'll catch them all day long.
