Assuming this is allowed and we won't be penalized by the league in any way, I like it!
Welcome back, Stone!

I liked Stone as a player and given the Valimaki injury, I'm glad to have him back.

Huh. This is an interesting precedent if allowed.
Basic question...this means that Stone takes home more cash this year than if we were to have not bought him out, correct? Flames save cap, player makes more money. Hmmm

$1.166 mil in buyout + .7 in salary = $1.866 mil cap hit this season and $1.166 mil next season
compared to a $3.5 mil cap hit this season if they didn't buy him out

Buyout the whole team and re-sign them all for 7x$700k.
Give Marner and Point 13 million.
Win the cup.

I sure don't.
Before today the Flames had only seven defensemen under contract, and Juuso Valimaki is on LTIR. The Flames were always going to add a depth defenseman before the start of the season.

Maybe this opens the door to a Brodie trade for Tkachuk cap room.

so this saves us 1.7m this season in comparison to keeping Stone on his original contract. Of course there's also a buyout penalty next season, but still, pretty crazy that this is allowed in the CBA.

GOAT!
My initial thoughts on this:
- Need to free space now to accommodate about-to-be-official Tkaclutch signing
- No acceptable deals involving Frolik
- Acceptable deal involving Brodie
- Sign Stone to allow Andersson to replace Brodie on the top pairing

$1,166,000 to not play for us and $700,000 to play for us.
