Flyers season has been a train wreck. It does make sense that they retain him, since they paid a ransom to acquire him, but not sure if that was the best move. Flyers are an inconsistent team year to year though. They might just be one of the top teams in the league once again, next season.

Yeah I don't disagree with this.
Ristolainen is getting paid because he's big and because 4 years ago he was a 40 point defenceman.
I should also say that this is only 6.18% of the salary cap next season. So…I guess it could be worse?

Yep, the rare time the Sabres got out from a player at the exact right time and made out like bandits.
Even the throwaway roster player we got back (Robert Hagg) has been about as good as he has, and is at least a tradeable asset on a cheap contract.

I don't think this is his last contract. Plus, predicting any team's success over a 7-8 year contract is a crap shoot. 7 years ago the Avs were coached by Roy, and were a .500 club and the next year they were .293 under Bednar.
