So far, and keep in mind we've only been back for part of this year, we've certified
- Native Tongues
- Tubby Dog (Burger Wed)
- Donna Mac's
The first two are a cut above. For me the Native Tongues burgers is amazing. My favorite in the city.
Empire Provisions also does a different burger each Friday. Always outstanding and will earn certification for sure. We are just trying to figure out how to review it since each week the burger is different. We will probably do a single review where we touch on 4 or 5 of the ones we've sampled there
I also really like Re-grub but we haven't had a chance to formerly review.
When we originally did the Quest, at the top of our list was Naina's, and it is still outstanding.
You can't go wrong with any of those.

I think you guys are being too hard here. If it was a burger from TH the patty would be a low quality, pre-cooked, and re-heated sitting in a warming bin prior to being assembled with bun. Probably on the same plane as a 7-Eleven microwave burger.

i will be interested to see a formal review of re-grub. i think their burgers are alright, but overpriced, and as i recall getting pickles on your burger there is not an option, so for me that is not good as i really enjoy pickles on a burger.
personally, i find fatburger more enjoyable than re-grub, and it is cheaper as well.

We went to Roy's Place in Claresholm on the weekend. I had the Forty Creek Whiskey Burger. Like so many good burgers, there wasn't any one thing that was special; it was all just done right. At first I was underwhelmed by the size of the patty; however the balance of the meat, seasoning, BBQ sauce as well as the quality of the toppings made this a solid choice. Good home made gravy.
Their other specialty is the fish & chips, will have to try that next time.

Planning another burger outing at the end of the month and we're looking at The Nash or Regrub. Never been to either - reviews?

I have always enjoyed the burger at The Nash / Notable, but the last time I visited The Nash, I left disappointed. The burger was fine, but its size was noticeably smaller than previous visits. It wasn't worth the $20 bucks in my opinion.

I haven't been there in a while, but one burger that is severely underrated in Calgary is the one at Briggs. You all need to go have one right now.

Update - it was really good - definitely in the upper echelon of burgers we've sampled over the course of our decade long journey.

For burgers made at home, any suggestions on this front?
I've found some decent brioche buns at safeway that come in a 4 pack (some french company, forget the name). The size is perfect for the patties I make but tend to get pretty soft when toasting them on the BBQ. I'd like to find something a bit more dense.

I guess it's a matter of preference.
I'm a big fan of the Portuguese Rolls, for their combined chewiness and crispiness. The downsides being that no they're not overly dense and usually a bit oval. If you wanted a denser version, you could go with a ciabatta or Italian roll.
There's, however, nothing worse than a pre-packaged dried out sesame bun to ruin a burger experience. Typically anything that comes pre-cut into halves is going to be awful.

I always liked the cheese buns you get at Costco - added a layer of flavour that worked nicely with a burger.

Everyone has different preferences and I prefer a softer, lighter, chewier bun. As such I go with the dinner roll tray buns they have at Coop. It is my favorite bun for a burger now although the down side with these buns is that they are small and I have to make smaller patties for them. Good luck with your search.

Sunterra Brioche hamburger buns are quite tasty. They make em in slider size and full size as well. It's a lighter bun that's not to sweet.
Can't wait to try Alumni!

Their Windsor Hammer burger that I suggested to you in a PM, I've had at least eight times and while it is annoying that the burger will sometimes come with a different bun from the order before, only once has the burger itself ever been sub-par with each other time I've eaten it being a truly outstanding burger experience. Hopefully you haven't tired it yet and when you do, you both enjoy it as much as I do, thanks.
